Milling about among protesters outside a convention center in Arizona where Barack Obama was speaking on Monday, were about a dozen people carrying guns, the Associated Press reports. One of the protesters had a semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder. “In Arizona, I still have some freedoms," the man said when asked why he was carrying the rifle. Increasingly, protesters have been showing up with guns at the president’s speaking events to make a statement about their Second Amendment rights. At Obama's town-hall meeting in New Hampshire, a man carried a gun strapped to his leg while holding a sign that read, "It is time to water the tree of liberty." "It's a political statement," he told The Boston Globe. "If you don't use your rights, then you lose your rights." Arizona is an "open-carry" state, where you don't need a license to carry a gun in public as long as it isn't concealed. The leader of a group against gun violence said bringing a gun to a political event “makes the situation dangerous for everyone.”

Apparently he gets like 300 death threats a day....there's a lot of psychos out there. And they're probably all people with guns. (what a surprise)

Only in America: Gunman waits outside town hall meeting for Obama - and police say it's OK

A 9mm pistol holstered clearly to his side, and holding a placard that references spilling the blood of patriots, this gunman is waiting for none other than Barack Obama.
But instead of being wrestled to the ground by police and taken away to prison, William Kostnic is left untouched - because it is legally OK to carry a weapon in New Hampshire so long as it is not concealed.
Kostnic was waiting for the U.S. president before a town hall meeting in the town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire yesterday. He stood in the grounds of a nearby church, which was private property, and police had no objections to his presence, MSNBC reported.

Open carry is legal in most states. This guy was breaking no laws.
I could do the same here in PA.

WVOtoGO 08-18-2009 01:00 AM

Sure.
Right up until the Secret Service feels you may be a threat to the President.
Then you can kiss your legal right to carry right out the window.

How dare these people do something that is perfectly legal. Where do they think they are??? In the United States?? And here I thought that if a small but vocal minority didn't want you to do something that you had to blindly obey them. Why would Obama worry about getting shot anyway? He's doing such a wonderful job. I guess he's the first president to ever be threatened so we should let the govt. take all the guns. F!#$&ng progressive idiots!

WVOtoGO 08-18-2009 01:06 AM

Well....
Yep....
F!#$&ng idiot! does now come to mind.

It's illegal to threaten the President. The second amendment does not make it legal to do so.

I wonder how many went to a GWB speech armed?

That's a very good question.

davidmash 08-18-2009 01:20 AM

I suspect had it happened the SS arrest or shooting would have made the news.

WVOtoGO 08-18-2009 01:21 AM

I’m not talking about what’s legal and what’s not.

If the SS feel that you are, or could possibly become a threat to the President, you will be removed to another location.
Legal right or not.

WVOtoGO 08-18-2009 01:23 AM

Does anyone know exactly where the President was during these armed protests?

Probably outside of 1/4 mile.

Obviously both sides knew this and the guy was baiting the SS so he could have his 15 mins of fame and spread his word. SS didn't bite and this blurb is all he gets.

I have a feeling a sniper rifle was trained on him. Had he made a move for the gun, his head would be ventilated. He wants to be made a martyr for his cause and the SS people were probably taking precautions but not rising up to the bait. Good for them.
