"Pawn Stars:" History channel reality show
Anybody else wathcing this one? I get a kick out of it. Located in Las Vegas, I'm pretty sure anyway, and that would seem to be a place that might do a lively pawn shop biz.
This guys seem to have a pretty deluxe biz for a pawn shop -- taking in $30,000 civil war cannons, Chris Craft motor boats, etc. I'm a bit surprised at how interesting the show is.

What time does it come on? The wife and I love pawn stores. My wife is an expert in jewelry, when we lived in Jax. Fla we would go to pawn stores and buy Jewelry and sell it privately and make good$$$. We would like to see that show.

I get Dish network satellite and IIRC it comes on at 8 and 11 on Sunday nights. Today they repeated what looked like two half hour segments back to back, which was bit odd to me because I thought it was a one hour show. The second 1/2 hour slot was part of one show I'd seen. I imagine they edit it so they can present it as either/or.
But this is an indication that they have a small hit on their hands, that is, they're repeating it at different times of the week while the main run is still going on.

I've been watching it, too, for the past several weeks.
I caught it channel surfing and found it fascinating. Most episodes feature people trading in antique guns or that old cannon in last week's episode. I have it set on the DVR to record it every time it comes on.

I find the family "tension" in shows of this sort a little put up. Remember the biker-building family where the guys were always on the verge of a fight? How about the Boyington Hot Rod show where you could always count on some sort of manufactured crisis? Then there is Ice Road Trucker, now Pawn Wars.
I like many of the shows' content, but the trumped up emotionalism doesn't contribute to the appeal--at least for me. ( If the arguments are not manufactured then History Channel finds the most dysfunctional families on the planet. I prefer a little more emotional maturity for my TV viewing.)

The show is entertaining. Some of it is staged. I like the old dude all dressed in black. It seems like he treats his son and grand son as a hobby. I like waiting to see what comes in the door to be pawned. They fixed the Chris Craft and fired the cannon. It is much better than most of crap on network tv. I like the Deadliest Catch.

I believe that a friend of mine works in that pawn shop. If you all have any specific questions about the show, I could ask him.

It's in Las Vegas...I get a kick out of the old man as well. I find the rhetoric between the generations to be somewhat like it is in my family...but we all love and respect each other. It's all done in good nature.

I've never seen the show but I just love pawn shops...my kids do too. I have bought lots of high-end mechanics hand tools for very little money, although dealers around here think Snap On is made of gold, so I avoid that particular brand. I have gotten Proto, Plomb, S-K, Herbrand, Easco, New Britain, the list goes on and on, great quality tools for almost nothing.

There really is no tension among the grandfather, father, and son. There was one episode where the son "Big Hoss" bought the Chris Craft boat for $15K without getting permission from his father, who was pissed off. Other than that, the show is just about people trading in interesting stuff.

I enjoy seeing the stuff that comes in for sale or pawn. I have no idea how they establish a value for something like a used fighter ejector seat, or much of the stuff they get.
I think they throw in the family squabbles in all these shows to make them more , "real". To me, it just detracts from the basic good part of the show.
