Talking Bought a 300CD!

Some would consider it a downgrade...but when recalling my nightmarish experiences with newer Benzes (mainly my 98 C230) it seems like a totally logical move!

It's a 1980 with 267k miles. Has the usual amount of blowby, shifts surprisingly smoothly, and has working AC! Not to mention the clean body and interior. Only things it needs are window seals, one new seat spring, and a new door lock on the driver's side. Oh, and the door pockets are missing for some reason...

I plan on putting either chrome bundts or chrome Centra's on it, Euro headlamps, and MAYBE lowering it. Not sure yet. What do you guys think?

Here are a few pictures...

Looks pretty good. I could see putting on polished alloy's but not chrome. I've never seen a chrome alloy which held up very well. The Euro lights would look sweet. I'd go very minimal on lowering it.

I had chrome 15" bundts on my black 300CD and they looked pretty good on that car, still wished I had mine.

I'm jealous.

Do you mind if I ask what you paid for it?

I've really started love the 300CD's after I got the chance to see a few up close.

Looks good
Gets great mileage
Reliable
Usable rear seat space for those odd 3+ passenger situations
Still safe in a crash

I know that I will one day want a 560SEC but thats complex and a gas guzzler by comparison to a 300CD. The bug bit me so badly that I actually went to go and look at one a few weeks ago for my father. I should have left him at home because he low balled the guy on price on this MINT example......

Nice!
If you can find replacement door pockets, install them properly. Seems your example has had the door panels off and were forcibly removed.
When I replaced the window regulator on the drivers side, the air leak stopped. Those gaskets are PRICEY and may not be the fix you're looking for.

Looks like a nice car!

I actually love the hubcaps and would keep it as is. I've never been a fan of the bundt rims, either painted silver or chromed.

Did you buy it from a dealer or private party?

Nice price. I see a lot of 300CD's in my neighborhood (Silverlake/Echo Park), seems to be the hipster chick car of choice.

With it being black in color, I really dig the hub caps on it. I'd keep it as is, IMHO

Yeah i'd keep the hub caps the same or MAYBE paint them black to match the body color.

$1,700 is a steal for a 300CD.....the one that I looked at was a 85 turbo and he wanted $7,800 IIRC

Nice I have always liked that body style. Keep the caps.
Drop it slightly if at all.
