I never use spell checkers. They're the Devil's work! Whenever I use software that incorporates an automatic spell checker, it is nothing but a headache and just slows me down, often inserting words I never intended. I then have to go back through everything I write and correct the mistakes the spell checker has made.

My Firefox constantly checks spelling and "donks" every time I misspell a word... I never turned that function on so I don't know where it comes from.

It's at home so I'll have to wait until later to check. I do know it's the latest since FF is always trying to upgrade itself and I just let it do it's thing.

Spell checkers are fine as long as they know their place. If a program wants to politely show me that it thinks a word might be misspelled (as Firefox does with relatively innocuous red underlining), that's fine with me. If the software will let me easily add a new word to its dictionary (as Firefox does with only a couple of mouse clicks), so much the better.

Now, software that installs with "auto-replace" enabled by default - well, THAT'S the Devil's work!

I always compose off line, using Word, and then copy and paste. That way no lost messages due to a minor detail.

The downside is that this web site will usually change the typeface and font size.

I type so fast that it only takes me a matter of 2-3 seconds to type out and post a message about this long.

Pull up www.pcworld.com. They just had an article touting a good spellchecker for Firefox. If I have a chance, I will look it up for you.

I have version 3.5.2 Under tools, options and the advanced tab, there's a check box that says: Check spelling as I type...

That's odd. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. That might work.

My biggest spell check problem is when I misspell words on a handwriting test and wait for the squiggly line to appear with the corrected spelling!

I hate handwriting. I type so much faster.
