Humbers
Just curious as to wether anybody on this forum has ever owned, driven in, or been driven in a Humber Super Snipe? Specifically one from the early sixties.
- Peter.

Oh yeah, I remember once. I not only saw one but got a ride in one.
It was a '63 Humber Super Snipe. Oh so veddy veddy British. Even the owners were, too. They were named Skewes-Cox and aside from me finding THAT bit curious, (you never saw it back then in the USA much) these people were haughty, unapproachable Brits that belonged to the Episcopalian (Church of England!) where I also grew up, and it was located in the uber rich section of Marin County (Ross) where the millionaires lived. Never found out what they were into, but clearly out of our class. I lived in an adjacent "middle class" neighborhood to Ross... I was told the Super Snipes were like a "compact" Rolls Royce, but much more modern and updated looking than those old Phantoms. Their styling has a lot of "American" themes, like the grille, dual headlights, fenders, '56 Buick Special quarter windows, and wrap around windshield, but the rich wood and leather inside is NOT American themed. I liked the looks of the Super Snipes too, but NEVER saw another one again This one is Jay Leno's I recall hearing that they were prewar monster touring cars, and made HUGE lorries for the UK to use during the second wold war. Did you ever see or drive one in the UK or RSA, Peter?

As you said, a kind of mixture of American external styling with british "country squire" interior. Rather an unusual vehicle and one that I'd like to own again just for the eccentricity of it. - Peter.
