Need PC help!

I accidentally changed some settings in the setup screen. if that's what it's called now my mouse doesn't work.
How do I get back into the setup screen? I tried all the Function buttond but none of them work.
It's an ASUS - A7V8X-X.

HELP!!!!

Danny

If its USB it should recognize and reload itself. Did you delete a driver? here is a driver scan for ASUS

Danny,
I am not very clear what you mean by SET UP SCREEN...

The first think you should try is the simple re-start. Windows should pick up your mouse. If this doesn't work go:
on the bottom row of your keyboard there is a WINDOWS symbol (usually second from the left) this will start the menu from the START button.
Next navigate using your arrow keys, when you make a selection use your ENTER key.
If you still have an issue post here and I will try to answer.

I'm looking to get into the Main Menu.

I didn't delete any drivers I changed the something for the USB ports from Disabled to Enabled now my mouse doesn't work. I'm at the library now.
I tried rebooting, doesn't work.

I need to get back into the Main Menu to change it back.

I think it's hit the Delete button during bootup. Will that work?

Danny

He's talking about changing the CMOS settings or the "boot" menu. More than likely he changed the "enable USB keyboard" setting which can affect the on-board USB controller which then tells "Windows", "Nope, I'm not here".

There is a keypress in the initial start-up sequence which enables a user to change the "start-up" or "Boot" menu. Differs from motherboard manufacturers and also CMOS'es.

Try, "escape", "F1", "F10" or "Insert". Those are the most common. Ya gotta be quick on the newer computers.

p.s., You're too quick for me Danny! I never got my reply posted!

Ok I found the answer. Hitting the Delete button during the power on self test (Post) will get me to the main menu.

Hopefully my next post will be from my PC at home. Wish me luck!

If you royally screw up your BIOS settings, you can almost always reset the CMOS by removing the CMOS battery (about a nickel in size, pretty easy to find). Some newer motherboards have jumpers or even buttons for doing this

EDIT: Just for clarification - MAKE SURE THE COMPUTER IS OFF

I get the impression this is a Laptop.

In the BIOS there may be a setting, "multiple Pointing devices", my old compaq has it.

This tells the BIOS wether to recogbize an external Mouse.

see what it's set too.

He was talking about his laptop. I definitely wouldn't advise anyone to attempt this on their laptop.

Well I assume he meant the regular person.

I've replaced the MB on my laptop, and just replaced the MB on my neighbors laptop.

That one really PO'd me, how could Dell expect 95+ % of the people to be able to do this. Particularly him, he can't fix anything.

Worse, after 2.5 hours, fire it up and it works. WOPPEEEE we were high five'n.

Shut it down, put the battery, and the last couple of covers on and it fails exactly the same as before.
He had to send it Back.
