Ted Kennedy gone

Dead at age 77, the same age my father passed away.

Mixed feelings about the guy. His fellow senators from both sides of the aisle seemed to hold him in high regard.

Cable TV will be taken over by this story for several days.

May the Kopechne family, now, be able to rest their souls...

Agreed...good riddance.

The only shame, is that he didn't die behind bars.

He couldn't be behind bars...BECAUSE HE WAS IN THE BARS!!! His liver was probably too pickled to perform for him properly...I'm willing to bet he had the best HEALTHCARE that money could buy, but no one from his family will have to pay the freight...we're the shmucks that have to "tow that barge" 'til the final payment...

Oh well...it took wine, women and song to FINALLY brought down the remnants of the house that Joseph built...now, it's just a stinking, steaming, heaping pile of rubble...maybe, just maybe, the rest of the the Massachusetts "clan" will meet a similiar fate...sooner as opposed to later...

Gentleman all. Oh well, ask Rr senators how they felt about him. MJ Kopechne was a sad story. I'd a gotten her out of that car, I tell you what.

But people screw up. Your man W has way, way more blood on his hands.

Well all I can say is that an era has passed. For the first time since 1953 there is no Kennedy in the government!

I disagreed with just about everything he stood for. He a man coming from the wealthiest percent of our nation who was trying to dictate what people with far less money should do for people with even less while his family was protected by trust funds. The typical Limousine Liberal he did not put his own money up or change the way HIS family lived.
However, his ideals of a better America were and are good ones.

As for MJK, I hope she gives him a good talking to up there!
He should have never left her to die. That plus hiding out until he was sober always made me disrespect the man.

I wonder who is going to replace him in the Senate? Will it be Joe P II or Patrick?

A deeply flawed man who did a lot for the cause of working people even though he didn't ever have to work himself.

Mary Jane's family forgave him decades ago.

As for saving her, it is my understanding that the currents in the tidal estuary that they plunged into were very swift and difficult to swim in.

Not showing up 'til the next day never sat well with me.

Bobby was my favorite Kennedy.

Even with all of his money, he was much like all of us---Strong opinions, and trageically flawed. I'm not casting any stones.

I just keep picturing St. Peter meeting him at the gate and saying," The boss wants to see you in his office. He has somebody named Mary Jo in there and they have some questions you WILL answer."
I don't believe, on the balance, that he was good for the country. Others may think differently.Opinions are like........elbows. Most of us have them.
Still, his passing will be a loss to many family members and friends and they have my condolences.
More interesting to see will be how they replace him since he was the one who pushed the current system.

cmac2012 is right about one thing...

Ted "The Head" will be cable fodder for the next couple of days/weeks/months 'til the next "idol" takes a dive...like Michael Jackson was/is/will continue to be...

Read the "Wiki" on this guy (Yep, he's already been "bookmarked" for "official updates" concerning his demise...).

It mentions how the law was changed when Mitt Romney was Governor, so that Mitt couldn't appoint a Rep in case Kerry became President...then when that didn't happen and Mitt was out, they changed the law back so a Dem could appoint a Dem..

No wonder the average Massachusetts voter can't keep a Kennedy (or their likes) off the public dole...they legislate themselves an office for life...it's like "Jerrymandering" voting districts, only for Public Policy...these guys are GOOOOOOD!

Sad day for the family and folks who shared his perspective. I certainly don't count myself among them (that is to say I didn't care much for his politics), but let's try to keep it reasonable. May he rest in peace, and those who are feeling pain today find healing soon.
