Anyone ever sharpen / hone a Hand Saw?
You know... the kind with a big flat blade and wooden handle that you guide through a piece of wood with your own strength?
I read a few tutorials online, just wondering if any of us mere mortals have ever completed this task with good results. Relevant info warmly welcome.

I remember my father doing this when I was a kid. He had several of those big old things. Can't honestly say that I can remember the process though. Or wether or not the results were satisfying. Sorry.

I worked once with a highly skilled carpenter on a house in France who almost killed me when I tried to use his hand saw. According to him the saw sets to the owner movements and cannot not be used by any one but the owner. I didn't even dare to touch his wood chisels...

I would interested in knowing how to sharpen a had saw. I have my Grandfathers had saw that he used as a young man over 100 years ago.

Every other tooth is at a different angle.
You sharpen every other tooth one way. Then the others the other way. Use a triangular file. Not so hard. You just have to get the angle correct. Use a magnifier.

Hand saw whats that? I have built half a dozen houses this year and havn't seen one.

There is, there is. It has a grip like a pistol and a guide to hold the blade. I believe there still is skill involved to use it properly.
