What does your significant other do when you go to the doctor?

I have a doctors appointment next Monday and the wife wants to come in to the examination room with me.
I'm not so sure I want her in there with me. What do you all think?

Danny

dynalow 08-27-2009 03:39 PM

They have all stayed home, except if I would be unable or instructed not to drive home from an outpatient visit. (pacemaker replacement or cardiac cath for instance). But for office visits, no. I always go alone.

KarTek 08-27-2009 03:41 PM

Only in a couple cases would it be appropriate:

1. You are a child or a senior citizen and can't be responsible for yourself.

2. The wife is a medical professional who can contribute to a discussion with the doc regarding some particular medical concern you have.

Otherwise, there's no real reason for her to be there. Just tell her to relax and you'll be right back.

On a related note, is the doc a hot female? Mine is... :) Makes the exam a little more interesting...

kerry 08-27-2009 03:46 PM

Prays for a fatal diagnosis?

The wife is there to answer any questions since she has already decided what I need and will comply with, etc, etc. I am there to rubber stamp whatever she decides.

Now if BHO could arrange for that kind of doctor, I'd be all over his healthcare idea, whatever it is.

Amend that to "pays the doc for a fatal diagnosis!"

I don't let my wife take me to doctors anymore. She's a bit of a tightwad. The last doc she took me to see wanted to clip my nails and worm me! She took me and the dog on a 2 for 1 special night. She did roll down the window for me though!

Dee8go 08-27-2009 04:19 PM

I'd like to perform the pelvic and breast exams on her myself. She's welcome to come with me and perform my prostate exam if she wants. Hell, her finger is a LOT smaller than my regular doctor's is.

dannyman- unless your unconscious or have a list of meds you can't remember she needs to stay outside. There are certain things you might feel more comfortable about talking to your doctor with than the mrs.

unless it's life threatening, this is between the doc and patient. Isn't Cialis a hair tonic?

Not if the wife is unhappy with his "performance".

It can be used as a heart medication, I suppose. :D:D

Do you have a history of not telling her what the doctor said at previous appointments?

My grandmother would insist on accompanying my grandfather to the doctor because he would say everything was fine even though he was told he needed to start meds or make a change in his habits.

Or see what? The nuts being fondled by the MD?

t walgamuth 08-27-2009 05:26 PM

Mine does not go but if she wanted to I would say sure! I'd have someone to talk to while waiting for the doc.

aklim 08-27-2009 05:33 PM

What if the patient, the patient's spouse and the MD all got naughty thoughts and had a menage e trios? :D

How would that be reported on the health insurance form? The MD needs to get paid.

This sounds like me...that's why the wife comes back with me. She doesn't trust me in this department.

That's funny. Back in my college days I worked at a granite quarry in western MA. It was a small operation and I had no health insurance. A piece of metal flew off a hammer one day and into my left forearm. It was a deep wound and I couldn't get the metal out. The owner of the quarry put me in his car and told me that since doctors were expensive, he was going to take me to a veterinarian that he knew. I absolutely refused and told him he was taking me to a doctor.

Well, the MD would have to say that there was a complain about some ED issue and the wife would have to complain about a vaginal dryness issue and that might work.

My cardiologist tells me he hears it all the time from wives of husbands he writes scripts for Viagra/Cialis for. They are less than thrilled about it!

Sounds like the wife doesn't want it any more and is secretly happy that the tools don't work. Now the husband has the meds to make the tools work and the wife is pissed that she has to accommodate him.

Also, maybe the girls are unhappy because the husbands can go play with other young nubile girls. That or maybe they are too cheap to have the husband buy hookers.

The Clk Man 08-27-2009 06:35 PM

My wife always comes with me to Dr. visits because she always wants to know how many pain pills I get so she can steal them. :)

My middle to late 70s something grandfather was married to his fourth wife.
#1 died after 35 year marriage (my grandmother)
# divorced (gold digger)
#3 died after several year marriage (she was a childhood sweetheart of his)

When he suggested a little fun, she basically told him where to go. He told her where to go and opened the door for her (always the gentleman).
#4 divorced.

That's when you have to whip out the American Express Card and have it listed as "Medicine" on the tab. :D ;)

No, not at all. The thing is I have a couple of Lipoma's:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipoma

I've been told the same thing by many doctors. She doesn't seem to believe me and wants to hear it from the doctor herself.
I'm a little annoyed she won't believe me.

Danny

Mike D 08-28-2009 12:10 PM

Say! I wonder if I can convince my wife the swelling above my belt is a Limpoma and should be treated with loving care as opposed to her regimen of limiting my caloric intake?:D

Sex burns calories. :D

Dee8go 08-28-2009 12:45 PM

I've been quite concerned about the occassional swelling BELOW my belt. I think I'd better have my gf take a look at that . . . .

Perhaps the best thing would be to have a professional look at it. Someone like the naughty nurses

Dee8go 08-28-2009 01:03 PM

You're probably right. It's best not to take any chances. I will consult with a professional . . .
