Steers #73.1 and #28 are fully committed to the BHF grass-fed beef program.
Took them to the abattoir this afternoon. Slaughter tomorrow, hang and dry age for 21 days, vac-pak for resale. Then, we'll see where just we stand in the grass-fed biz.
I have to say that they are a couple of fine looking animals too. Probably close to 875# each, they've been on pasture since March and hay and cottonseed meal before that. The last two weeks were spent in my finishing pasture that's been planted with cowpeas. Should end up with a total of about 500# of meat...about half of the round steak will be ground into hamburger, the marginal roasts too. After the shoulder and rump roasts, everything else is steaks, ribs, brisket and fajitas. I'm keeping the tongues and ox-tails for me, my friend James wants the hearts and livers. #73.1 was 17 months old #28 was 20 months old This is USDA inspected, all-natural, pasture-raised, grass-fed beef. PM me for ordering instructions and pricing.

We had one slaughtered in June. I never ate much red meat until trying GFB. Most of it's gone already to friends and family.
I have another older heifer that is good for nothing but getting out the gate. She's going for a ride as soon as I can get an appointment booked. They are at least a month out here. |
