Oh, I've heard that sound "live" many times! When I was a kid we lived in Belgium, and there were always WWII commemorative or Belgian military parades with tanks, APC's, halftracks... you name it. Our neighbor had a small collection of WWII US Army vehicles, and I rode in his Jeeps and personnel carrier a few times. He also had a Kettenkraftrad!

Anyway, yeah -- it's a spooky sound.

The only military hardware that we see in CT are cargo trucks, A-10's and if your on the shoreline, submarines.

Yeah -- there's not much happening around here, either. Once in a while a WWII reenactment group will stage a show and haul a tank or two in, but I always manage to miss them.

At least you get to see A-10's; THAT is a cool airplane!

Oh right I did see a B-17 a few weeks ago. I think its the same one that Hattie saw. Apparantly its flying out of Brainard and giving vintage flight tours....sounds like fun.

A-10s are great and have a VERY useful battlefield purpose...its a shame that they keep trying to kill it off in favor of new, fast, unarmored, high-tech maintenance boxes....

The B-17 wasn't by chance "Aluminum Overcast," was it? My brother works at an air museum and was invited to ride along to an airshow in that plane. Lucky SOB got to ride in the cockpit and at every gun position, and has pics of it all. They even gave him an embroidered flight jacket.

The A-10 is one of my favorites. Apparently it's still very much a favorite in Afghanistan, along with Strike Eagles, from the dispatches I have read. They can carry quite the ordinance package, as I'm sure you know, and the downlink is nice for the JTACs to direct the fight.

Funny to think that if it weren't for the first Gulf War, the A-10 would almost certainly be gone by now.

off topic but the A-10 is one of my favorite planes. Its the only plane that is built around a gun

I had a video from a buddy of mine in the national guard when they were training with an A-10 there was a tank behind an abandoned building to simulate urban warfare. The A-10 shot through the building and hit the tank, that tank was totally shredded. It was awesome!

I don't recall the color...the first the I saw was an enormous shadow in front of me on the highway and a few seconds later it flew right over me.

Too true, by the mid 80's the brass already wanted to chop it. The guy on the ground doesn't need to place a missile 30 miles away....he needs to be on the radio saying "Ok you see that brick building with the 5 pine trees on the north side? Drop a bomb between the trees and the building."

While there is no denying that that sort of knife fighting plane is needed I think, given the choice, i'd rather fly the SU-25....its gun is also 30mm, however it is a damn site faster and more maneuverable then the A-10.

It was the Liberty Belle. It flew over my house about a 1/2 dozen times for some takeoffs/landings and around the neighborhood a few more times. I can't even imagine what it was like during WWII with a squadron of those things flying overhead!

Squadron? What about 1,000+!

Now that would suck being on the receving end, you know a lot of hurt is coming down on you when you hear that...and nothing you can do but duck.

Definitely one of the best games ever made IMO. Sure it was rough around the edges and buggy as hell when it was released, but worth it after patches. Have you tried ARMA 2?

Nope, holding out for Operation Flashpoint 2. Real my only complaint with the original game was any and everything that happened when you went inside a building. Other then that its magnificent!
