Does anyone own Quails?

I was wondering if anyone on this board raises/owns LIVING quails LOL

I'm hopefully picking up a few Coturnix quails tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any advice or information on them... They're just going to be pets.. I'll decide if I want to raise some as a hobby once I have them.. Sounds like it'd be cool though.

I guy my dad is friends with raises them to sell the eggs in the oriental food market... Makes $6 a dozen. Once quail are used to humans, they are really good pets... Taste good too....

That's awesome, yeah I think it'd be cool to try out/sell some eggs and I was told also they make great pets, I'm very excited! lol Someone told me though that I need at least four or else they will start to eat eachother?

I'm probably just going to get three max due to the lack of cage space at the moment.. Hope I don't run into this problem. Is having just one bad?

Eat each other!

40 years ago when my father and I raised quail, pheasant, and chukars the practice was to de-beak birds that where kept for breeding. This prevented the actual damage caused by "cage cannibalism" when the peck at each others back, this is more a sociological disorder of caged birds than rather than eating thing.

I'm not sure about the canibalism, as he's got hundreds of them.... I know it happens with chickens if they're too crowded....

Hmmm the cage space I have at the moment is good for about two, but I don't want them pecking at eachother...

Shoot, I might have to pick up three then... What would happen if it's just one? Would it freak out? Or be okay with it?
