Fires affecting anyone in LA?

Anybody affected by the fires in LA? Looks to be getting worse. I sure hope we don't lose Mt. Wilson. (observatory)

I'm not in LA but like you said it seems to be getting worse, I hope they're ok over there. I remember the Esperanza fires, those were baaaad Palm Springs was in a big smoke cloud and from my house you could see the fires buring on the mountains! It was crazy!

I hope they get this one under control, hasen't help too i'm sure having a bit of a heat wave this week.

Speaking of LA, has anybody heard from Ernesto lately? I don't recall seeing any posts by him in quite a while.

Even if you are not near the fires, they are affecting everyone in Southern California.

The sky is covered in smoke, and I woke up to ash covering my wife's car that was parked in the driveway.

My daughter lives in West LA. She had been working at a studio not too far from the fire zone this week. She says it's not good out there. :o

It's 12 miles from my house; the air is getting pretty bad.

well last night the winds shifted and on the way home from work last night it was raining ash pretty bad. The moon was silhouetted by a orange glow from the smoke and the smoke was so thick it would hide the moon. Haven't been outside today to see how bad it is but I am expecting a good amount of ash on the car.

There was a lot of ash on my car this morning as well. Beautiful light outside, to bad I'm not shooting a movie at the moment, golden hour all day:)

there's a fire?

hmmm. thought the neighbors were barbecuing.

(seriously, its been over 90 every day for a week, the sky is gray all day - probably at night too, who knows? - and i have refrained from swimming my laps for a few days.)

No running and swimming for me the last couple of days either:(

I am sorry to hear that, Jorn. As you know I drove out of LA over the weekend, and already it was looking bad.

I hope you are safe and won't have to evacuate.

And, I immensely enjoyed meeting up with you last weekend on the West side near UCLA.

Jorn 09-02-2009 09:34 PM

Jim, was good meeting you as well. We will have coffee again when you're back in LA.

I am about 10-15 miles frrom the station fire (depends on the wind speed and direction). The fires suck and the smoke is worse, but fires are pretty much a part of living in a chapperal area, part of the circle of life.

You have to hand it to the guys and gals fighting the fires, it has been very hot and windy. RIP to the two guys that lost their lives and condolances to to people they left behind. SoCal fire fighters are the best!
