I have a 2 and 3 year old and I can tell you that if anyone tried to slap either of them I'd leave them in a hurting heap.

That said, I also would be trying to calm my child and it would be evident that I was trying deal with it. But tantrums are the worst and there is no reasoning with a toddler at that point. You can't spank your kid in public unless you want child services to meet you at your car.

If I just finished filling my cart with the items I need and had to get through check out, I would not leave the cart to take my kid outside just because they were crying.

I agree with everything here for the most part.
Nothing worse than being stuck near a screaming kid.

Keep one thing in mind though. Most kids are crying out for a reason.

I don’t hold it against a kid that’s crying on a plane because perhaps his ears are hurting or he’s just plain (plane ) scared of the new situation, strangers and weird sensations.

I tend to hold it against the parents who just sit there and let the kid go on and on with not even the slightest attempt to calm them.
It’s not the kid who needs slapped in those cases.

and...
Thank God for private aircraft ownership.

X2

Glad to say also, that neither of my kids have ever thrown a fit in public.
But I have seen some hum-dingers.

Luckily, I haven't experienced it in public with either of mine so far either. They have acted up and a stern voice was all it took to diffuse the situation.

Before I had kids of my own, I always thought" Why the **** aren't they controlling that ******** BRAT!!! Now I know that it's just not that easy.

Due to this revelation, I don't do air travel any more. I'll wait until both my kids are old enough to be reasoned with.

Had a "nice" plane ride from Japan home, 14 hours of the kid screaming, kicking my chair, knocking my armrest down....... Talk about ready to throttle someone (not the kid).

Another reason to shop at Walmart--the entertainment value.
I'm surprised someone didn't deck him. You just do not touch or hit someone else's child.

i agree on both parts.

nobody likes a screaming child but you deal with it imo. you deff don't make someone else pay for an annoying child.

i would've confronted the guy had i been there.

FELONY Assault for a slap?

Geeze make the punishment fit the crime! Have the Bailiff slap him four times and be done with it!

I do agree that slapping a 2 year old really does no good. He should have slapped the mother! I cannot stand people who cannot control their kids or who think it is "cute" when they act up in a public place "Aw look little is asserting him/herself?"

When my kids were small I had to make many runs for the car because one of them was acting up. I would never subject anybody else to their BS... I wonder if Mommy was yapping on her phone and ignoring the kid and that was why she was crying.

It would not suprise me if the court ordered a mental assesment before deciding the case. If simply frustrated he could have easily walked away.

He may have some unreasonable complex or attitude in his makeup. Slapping the child on the face several times was not going to stop the crying. When a person does illogical things they should be seen by a doctor.

Well it is Walfart, a lot of crazy people shop their.

Loud kids drive me nuts, planes are the worse. Sometimes you just want to deck the parents who just sit their or only give half hearted attempts to shut the brats up. I mean come on, I'm stuck in a metal sewer pipe at 35k feet and I have to listen to your brats scream for a few hours.
