A friend of mine had this funny looking gizmo the other day, it played really well. He says he never needs to recharge it either...
I'll see if I can find a pic. |

What is the level of her technical ability?
iPods are excellent for people who really are not computer friendly. Apple makes it super super easy for non-computer people to go portable.

There's a learning curve. Trust me she'll be asking, "Well how do I turn it off?" And no the hold button on top doesn't do that

Speaking of harps... what's a good beginner harp? Was thinking of trying a 5 dollar Hohner Blues Band but if it breaks in a week i dont see the point, maybe I'll spend some more cash on something better.

I bought the iPod Shuffle last year...the little "square" style...silver...a regular mini-stereo plug fits in the headset/USB Sync/Charging port...you have the "wheel" which is just a circular "switch" similiar to what you might have on the back of a digital camera...loading the iPod SW from Apple was a bit of a "snooze" ... but once I played with it, it's sort of cool to be able to select/build various "lists" of your favorites, then laptop the selections and have everything with arm's reach whenever the mood changes, hits and takes.
I went and bought the 8Gb slim-jim iPad Shuffle...this thing is about the size of two or three sticks of Juicy Fruit Gum stacked on one another ...its headset cord is a little different...I don't believe you can use the other iPod headsets with this unit...the R earpiece cord has the FWD/RVS/P/BU functions in a slim, retangle in-line switch...the top and bottom of the switch raises and lowers the volume and the actual switch operates the functions of the Shuffle itself...one *click* gets the music playing or paused...two *clicks* advances the song list by one from the one you're currently listening to...and three *clicks* will back up the list to the song just in front of the one you were listening to...a "repeat" function, if you will. Battery time on a full charge is over 8 hours, if you don't crank the p1ss out of the volume...the "square" unit is good for about 4-5 hours on a charge. Both units come with their own USB charging adapter. The square unit has a little "dock" you plug you unit into and the rectangle unit just plugs into the USB port of your computer and the mini-stereo plug goes right into the unit itself. On the units, you have the ON/OFF/RANDOM/SEQUENTIAL switch(es) and the little tiny "green/yellow/amber" L.E.D. hole to give you an indication of charging/charge status of your particular unit. And the SW that you're downloading from Apple...it has "iPod-Speak" where you can set it up to tell you information about the song you're listening to, or it can let you know when you're running low on battery... The two drawbacks to these units are this...neither can be plugged into a home speaker unit like the regular iPods...and the earbuds...they aren't too forgiving on the ear canals...I'm looking to see if there are any "soft-gel" or "soft-foam" styles that are compatiable with both styles of the Shuffle... Overall, I think they work just fine for what I'm using them for...I can't see me buying the "screen" styles anytime soon...I'm more of a "radio" type of person with personal music items...I never did get into "watching MTV" for my daily Led Zepplin fix. Besides, some of those musician/singers have faces better suited for radio than TV...heaven knows mine does!!!
