New cell phone radiation chart

Where does your phone fit on the scale?

Some research, I gather, showing increased mouth cancer among long time cell users.

Sweet. I have a blackberry bold, and its #11 on the worst phones!

cmac2012 09-12-2009 04:51 AM

Is that why you glow in the dark? My Sony-E. is not great - 1.43, just under the worst 20.

Matt L 09-12-2009 10:08 AM

My Motorola ST7867W isn't on the list.

Time to put the tin foil hat back on.

Matt L 09-12-2009 10:35 AM

As much as I use a mobile phone, I am not at all worried.

There's an ad I've seen recently selling some cheap plan, saying something like, "If you only use your phone a few times a day..."

A few times a day? Try once or twice a week.

Who knows? The body is regulated by all sorts of small electrical currents. Back when X rays were first discovered for use in seeing bones beneath the flesh, shoe stores used them for fitting shoes on customers. Hey, what could go wrong?

I wonder if those who raised objections about that were given the tin foil hat treatment?

Back when, a doctor earned the scorn of many colleagues for pushing the idea that surgeons should wash their hands between patients. Are you kidding me?!?, they said. We all know that bad humours in the blood is what causes disease, etc. etc.

My phone doesn't have its model number written on it anywhere so I had to look it up....but i'm pleased to report a SAR rating(W/kg) rating of .8

I guess I'm somewhere in the upper lower category.

The model number is usually near the EIN, often under the battery.

Mine is so old that it is probably very bad. I'm the only person I know with a handset that doesn't do ring tones and has a monochrome screen. Old-school StarTAC that just plain works great for a phone.

Startac

Matt L,

Mr Galvin's people tell me that series has the best Transceiver RF operation
[Range]of any unit produced in the last 20 years.

We have two
(One of which is ill/dead ,suffered a 15Ft. fall onto concrete...A quick trip to
MidWest cellular for triage/repair is all that's necessary)
(Note: the Newest regs promulgated by the FCC at the Carriers insistence
prohibit Activation/Re-Activation of these units (No E911/GPS capability)
in the 95% case.)

If you look at the attached Chart...I've been at the Bouy marked 2W and still
gotten a Digital Signal of "Two Bars" and made and received calls with ease.
AND the nearest Cell Site was either on Skidaway Island or Tybee (marked
"Rear" with a white flash in the center) almost 12 miles away.

I liked my StarTAC pretty well and the two Motos after it but one fault on all three drove me nuts: The battery charger jack wore out on all three, or rather the means by which it made secure connection to the phone. With the StarTAC after a couple years, I had to use a rubber band to hold the jack in place long enough to charge the phone.

My other two motos would come up with 'unable to charge' about one quarter of the time. I'd have to monkey with it for a while to gt it to work.

That must be a problem with motorola. I used to have a motorala ic502 and it was getting finicky with the charging also. I had to put it in the sweet spot.

That's one thing I like about this new Sony-Ericsson TM506 of mine. The charger jack setup works pretty well. One thing that's weird though, it uses the same jack-port for head-set, web-USB cable, and charger. So if I'm charging it in the car as I drive, I wouldn't be able to use the hands free head-set.

The Nokia style circular jack looks primitive but it seems to work all the time. I briefly had a Nokia with Metro PCS while I was getting one of my Motos fixed. Good thing too, cuz first day I had it I got a $600 job. Sorta paid for the month's service pretty well.
