It is purt near shocking the way large corps will pander to whatever trend is happening among youngsters in service of separating them from Mommy and Daddy's money.

Frontline had a piece a few years back about market research on youngsters. Apparently trampiness sells.

Kaching, kaching.

My daughter hates that I won't let her shop at what I call the "teenage hooker stores"-Pink, Hollister, etc. Although I despise the companies that try to sell this $hit, I hold the parents who allow them to in even lower regard.

This is where the blame belongs. The corporations are going to sell anything they can to make a profit. Its not up to government, or the society to stop this--its up to the parents of the little tramps who think its somehow "cute" to have their 10 year old daughters dress like hookers.

BONUS question---Where did the term " hookers" come from?

Look, if I had INDONESIA branded across my back and a waistline too small to accommodate vital internal organs, I might go wild with the tattoos, too.

I never really liked Barbies when I was a little girl. I was pretty into Ken, though.

I liked He-man and Transformers. I think the only girly thing I liked was My Little Ponies ... even then I preferred Breyer Horses, which were very realistic horse models.

Corporations sell what the buyers want. Yes, it is up to the parents who are often too lazy to do what they need to do so they lean on the govt or society.

You'd be amazed (or probably not) at how hard it was to find clothes for my almost 10 yoD, who happens to be about 4'10" and 110 lbs., that weren't A)cheesy or B)whore-ish. The search finally ended at good old Sears who actually had cute, good quality pre-teen girl clothing.
