Anyone know anything about Jeeps? (shamless plug for help)

http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/94-5-2-dormant-3-years-ran-wont-restart-fuel-issue-suspect-24267/

Might get a winter rig for penuts, if I play my cards right...

Helped out the dudes hot sister by fixing her car after she smashed a curb and killed two rims/tires, noticed a 94 jeep grand cherokee sitting in the side yard (mowed around, been there for years)

I asked about it, and then talked to her brother about it. Looked it over, drove it around the block, and offered $600. He declined, and coundered with a grand, noting that hes dumped 5k into it before sitting... fuel pump, ft end parts, ft diff rebuild, and others...

He paid a family friend to rebuild the rear diff, and the pinion angle is set wrong (i think... it howels loudly at speed). He gave up, and parked it.

Now that I bugged him about it, he moved it into his garage (his home, not his sisters), and now its taking up his parking spot... He called me up, and said we need to work on a price to get his parking spot back...

Took it for a spin, showed my uncle, now this... Its sitting with 10 gallons of fuel in it... I'm thinking of adding a pint of seafoam as a "mabey" to dissolve varnish that I suspect is clogging the filter... I could be wrong...

Needless to say, I had him flat tow it to his house, and I've since washed my hands of the deal... I know he wants it gone, and I know it would scrap for $300 or so... I thought to offer $500 and risk it...
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it running again?

Thanks
~Nate

Drain the tank and change the fuel filter/s. don't use Seafoam...lookd for Lucas Oil products, they are much better!

Look in a boneyard for another rear end...you should be able to get one for less than $200

I'd offer $400 and work from there. If he wants it gone bad enough, he'll deal.

Which engine is in the Jeep?

5.2 V8. Fulltime 4 wheel. Needs CV's, and it's a disk rear end (rare, and $400 used)
I'm taking a government sponsored vacation for a year in 4 months, I dont want to deal with anything I cant trust my mom to drive... I want something that I can just pour in the tank, allow to sit for a day or two, then come back and start it.

no such thing. once gas goes bad, its bad. the seafoam will only help break some of it up. drain the tank, fill with fresh fuel and a can or two of sea foam. get it to run by adding small amounts of fuel down the intake. it should at some point force enough fresh fuel through and be able to sputter on its own. once you get it to run change the fuel filter and be ready to change it again.

change the oil first too.

Fuel filter will be changed about 3-5 times before it would be ok to drive.

Cheap Jeeps are MUCH cheaper than cheap 107s!!

Sorry buddy, there is a reason it was parked. And now it will hve even more issues since it has been sitting. If you had time to play with it MAYBE, but if it was worth driving they would still be driving it. Thanks

Oh, well, erm... I phrased that incorrectly. I know it has issues.

Mabey after I come back from my "trip", If it's there I'll deal with it.

The V8 is much better than the I6, the fuel economy is not that much different untill you mash the pedal. the V8 has a better transmission/transfer case than the I6. I have the older V8 with the carburetor, the Grand wagoneer w 346Kmiles on OEM engine/trany.

Most jeep have ground issues... and some leaks....

Watch for rust.

As said, if it was parked... some issues could not be fixed for a reasonnable amount of $$$ or time, probably electrical gremlins. If i remember these things need the proper amount of fuel pressure... so the cheapest fix is the way to start... connect a fuel pressure gauge.... on line and see the reading... as pouring fuel down the TBI makes it run for a while. Then I would check for ground straps being loose -or add 2 10 or 12 gauge wires from battery to firewall, to A/C compressor, to module... and from body to gas tank fuel pump unit.... the gas tank is plastic so you have to search for the mounting plate.. I have not worked on these, but I suspect that it has either a trap on the body to access the fuel pumper/sender unit unit... otherwise drop the tank...to check ground / voltage specs.

If it was parked over dirt, expect rust anywhere and everywhere. The exhaust system will probably just fall off (had that happen on a nice car I bought that sat over dirt for awhile) in a few days. The moisture in the ground plays heck with metal.
