Talking I want a Regulator...

Saving my pennies, I want a Regulator 23, with a Yamaha 250 hanging off the stern. In fighting lady yellow, or see mist green I think they call it.

Large enough to handle some rough stuff, but not to big to be a PITA to use all the time.

IMHO they make the best center console you can buy, except maybe Edgewater. Whaler isn't a bargin on the bigger boats; since they are built like an Igloo cooler they lose a lot of room. Not a fan of their pricing or layout.

Another option is a Shamrock. I don't really care for outboards since they are expensive and you have a big hunk of metal in your way at the transom when your trying to land fish. Indboards are better, plus they drift better, and handle better, and are cheaper to fix.

Boats are the worst investment ever.

I'll never own one but I will have friends with boats so I can go on their boats.

Worst investment ever, but they are by far the most enjoyable way to waste your money.

My friends with boats are unreliable, I want my own. So at 1:30 on a nice weekday when I finish early I can run down to the marina and go fishing for a few hours.

Right now I'm only able to go sailing once a week if that...its brutal...I can't beleive how little time I have spent on the water this summer... Up until now it was at least 2-3 days a week, back when I taught sailing and my friends boat was local, and my dad and grandfather had boats... it was twice a day... I have always beleived a good summer Saturday is fishing in the morning, and sailing in the afternoon. I think I have a problem.

Boats use fuel like no tomorrow.....the biggest I'll ever get is an aluminum fishing boat with a diesel outboard. Then I can pull it with my W126....

I know people with V8 gasser boats...and they use like a gallon to the mile. Sometimes worse! When gas gets to 4-5-6-7 a gallon in the future, that will kill off such activities anyways. No way I'd spend $35 in fuel to travel 5 miles on the water.....that's just crazy.

1mpg is actualy pretty decent for larger boats. The Viking 61 that blew past me today at all of 40 knots wasn't doing that good.

When gas at the docks was at $5 a gallon we just went slower and didn't go out as much. But its still a lot of fun to sit at the dock and drink beer.

Overall fuel costs are just a drop in the bucket when you own a boat. Can't put a price on fun, or take it with you.

"or take it with you."

Ain't that the truth!

Yeah,Well a Regulator 23 with a Yamaha F250 would just about be unbeatable
Excellent ride in stiff 5ft. chop,Good fuel economy, lots of room and storage...
A new one would scare my wallet into cardiac defib.

Yanmar has ceased production of the 27 and 35 horse Diesel outboards...
[or so I was told] I heard some rumbling about some Asian Manufacturer
coming out with a modern four stroke turbocharged diesel outboard in the
300Hp range...We'll see.

A modern 4 stroke doesn't burn much fuel.

No one wants diesel outboards, I have only seen a handful and I'm around a lot of marinas.

I've never even heard of diesel outboards...I would think the weight would be too much to sling over the back end..

The handfull that I have seen have been pretty heavy for their power output.

The only time they are really usefull is as tenders on larger boats, so you only have to carry one type of fuel. I know the Navy uses them.
