Anybody want a duststorm?

We get these in Phoenix every once in a while. They look pretty neat when they are rolling in. A pain in the behind though when you are stuck in them. This pic was taken from just outside my house a few weeks back.

I'll take one

My aunt and uncle used to live in Phoenix and they told me all about the dust storms and how you guys get (in their words) "super crazy storms" but to the average Arizonian it's nothing...

You know Arizona gets some awesome weather, for a desert. We don't get jack here in this desert.. Do you guys get snow in Phoenix?

Great picture by the way!

That's quite a pic! I'd imagine once one rolls through you're cleaning dust out of all sorts of crevices that the sun don't usually shine on.

Thanks. We don't get snow in Phoenix itself though it can get bitterly cold. The mountains just to the north and east of us do get snow, sometimes quite heavily. The winter of 200/2001 as I recall had a very heavy snow fall on the surrounding mountains which are only a half hours drive out of the valley.

Nice picture but I'd me more impressed if you go seneaking through that wetland grass in barefeet and shorts. I bet there's lot of snakes in there.

Oh yes...trust me..I know
In 2001 I was in Libya for 3 weeks from work. They call the sandstorm "Ghibli" It was the worst experience in my life. It is not enough that you can't see, you can't take your breath but after everything is over and you try going to the restroom....you got this damn sand everywhere. Looks very funny to me now but it wasn't funny then
You know they have a saying that:
"The camel-masters of southwestern Libya say that during the Ghibli a camel can become pregnant without the intervention of the male."

I won't be investigating that myself. Though neighbours and my wife tell me they've seen bobcats in some of the water features at night.

I thought a guy from R.S.A would do that for fun. Arizona snakes are pussies.

Some might. Not this one. I'm really not into creepy crawlies and slithering things and stuff.

I was also thinking that snakes would be the least of your concerns in now R.S.A.

Indeed. And the past R.S.A for that matter. But I've been here since the middle of 2000 so what goes on back there no longer concerns me.

That's surprising I have friends that fled R.S.A and they always reminisce about how nice it was and know that it will never be the same in their lifetime. They are also nice enough to spare P.A.T.U memorabilia for my collections.

It was going downhill long before the present crowd took over. What's PATU?

I believe that there was a dusting of snow in the foothills of "The Valley" last year. The desert gets hot enough, but also has its annual monsoons, lightning and t-storms, dust storms, ozone smog . . . and, what once was the area for people with pollen allergies to escape to . . . has a relatively high pollen count due to agriculture, golf courses and people.
