And why do you think that is? Perhaps it is because I am tired of being lied to on a daily basis?

Even if they could, it would only be in the initial phases. Could they manage SS better? On paper, yes. What is the total tab from all their screwing around? We need to know that before we can decide if it is better or not.

Lets make this real simple. Look at all the deceit they have committed. Tell me why we should trust them again with any of their projections or future actions. Right now, the watchers monitor insurance companies. If the watchers become the administrators, who would watch the watchers? Should we trust them because this is a new item IN SPITE OF their past?
I don't remember the source. It was a Time magazine article that cmac posted here some time ago. Why don't you look it up. I'm sure if the article was saying the opposite (that private hospitals outperform the VA system) you wouldn't be questioning it.

The govt side has the means and the motive to lie. So yes, if they are saying that they have done something well, I will be suspicious. Who would intentionally make themselves look bad? They do have the motive to lie when it comes to making themselves look good though.

As I have been constantly asking. What is it about their past and current behavior that makes you trust them not to make this into another mess that needs to be bailed out again?

I'm sure private industry has no motive to lie. Why don't you check out that article? Are you afraid it might challenge some of your preconceived notions about govt?

Edit: Here's the article.

I'm sure you are being sarcastic. I know that they have a motive to lie. HOWEVER, there is the govt hovering over them with a motive to find the lie. Why? Because finding the lie means they get fined and the govt needs all the money it can get. Very simply put, somebody is watching the Private Insurance.

If you put the govt in charge and they have a history of lying, who would go watch them? What is the supervisory entity that can watch and do things to keep them from running wild? Their sterling past?

I have read that article already.

The govt can watch itself as it's already doing. But ultimately it's the voters who watch them and either approve or disapprove.

Very good! If the voters wanted to get rid of SS etc and have almost no
gov programs we would have voted Ron Paul in for president.

And such a fine job it is doing. So how do you explain their history of juggling pools of money? Do YOU think the way the screwed around with SS is a good and honest thing? How about the way they are quietly trying to borrow money so they can have their pork projects WITHOUT telling the voters that they have to bite the bullet either now or later?

It is the voters who are SUPPOSED to watch them. To most voters, they vote along party lines and let things go. Every 4 years, they sit up and pay a little more attention, vote someone that promises to fix everything and go on about their merry way. Didn't we have an article that said that the turnout in either Afghanistan or Iraq was better than what we have had here. With threats of death, they come out better than we do. So yes, that watching is good.
