Bought a 1993 BMW 740Li for...

Long story short. Guy wanted to get rid of it to move to another state, $800 was his asking price, it idles rough, (might be a spark plug hopefully) new catalytic converter radiator flush. Is i gave him a long history of the Troublesome M60 and how its cylinder wall gets eaten up by the high sulfuric acid that is in the low quality fuels cause rough idle (i am not taking any chances) and offered him a whopping $350, and gave him some time. Next hour he calls and says deal. 2 seconds later he says "someone is coming to buy that car $800 w/o looking at it. With faith, i wait, and waited and waited, and within 45 mins he calls back and said "that guy looked at the car and RAN AWAY!!!" and he took the $350 deal.

So back the the rough idle what could be the other possibilities. Here is what i know so far

Spark plugs
Dirty ICV
Bad MAF
O2 sensor

The car has power, transmission shifts smooth, dose not over heat, all but 3 thing are working, the 3 non functioning things are, No back light on the temp side, No light on the odometer and the transmission performance button goes into Snow mod but has a hard time getting back to Economy mod. I know this is not a bmw forum but it seems hard to get a reply back in a bmw forums.

You have pics of your new car? I've always wondered why the 7-series was never as big as it should be. Can't even hang with the Lexus LS, it seems.

Well you did awesome with the price!!! Congrats about that

The lights in the instrument cluster should not be that big of a pain to replace, but I think your problem with the snow mode transmission malfunction is in the computer/trani computer? If the trani is shifting smooth then I doubt it'll be a big issue to fix.

I think my friend that has 89 BMW 3 series used bimmerfest forums and they seemed pretty helpful, but there there is no forum like this one!! Good luck and let us know what happens! Plus, post some pictures! The 93 7series are amazing and great cars!!

If the motor is toast, find a post m60 in a yard. If the trans and everything else is good, you still got a decent deal.
