Today's paper stated that Letterman's sex with employees took place before he was married. I take that with a grain of salt, but it could be true.
I turned off the TV right after the top ten that night so I missed his story.

He married a girl this March that he has been seeing for 23 years. I suspect that means he was messing around while dating his wife which makes sense as to why that guy thought he'd try blackmail him.

Guy offers said work for sale. (nothing new there)

Someone buys it. (nothing new there)

But when you warn the "buyer" that it will ruin his life if he doesn't buy it, that becomes something else.

The D.A. said that Halderman waited outside Letterman's Manhattan apartment Sept. 9 at 6 a.m. to give him a package and say that he needed a "large chunk of money." He was hoping to sell a "screenplay treatment" and told Letterman that his life was about to collapse around him.

The one-page treatment mentioned "your beautiful loving son" [Harry, born in 2003] and said Letterman's "world was about to collapse around him." He also referred to "ruined reputation and severe damage to his professional and family lives."

Halderman allegedly said he should contact Letterman by 8 a.m. to further discuss the matter. Letterman immediately called his lawyer. Halderman and the lawyer met at the Essex House hotel on Sept. 15, at which point Halderman allegedly attempted to extort $2 million from Letterman, 62, in exchange for keeping quiet about sexual activity between the Late Show host and female employees of his program.

My attempt for humor may have(or not) been missed.
Governor Paterson, who is legally blind, is nationally recognized as a leading advocate for the visually and physically impaired. He is a member of the American Foundation for the Blind and he serves on the Board of the Achilles Track Club. He serves as a member of the Democratic National Committee and as a Chairman of the Coalition of Northeast Governors (CONEG).

Sorry, that's a thin view of the phenomenon. Wealth often does screw people up and it's not uncommon for wealthy people to realize that fact while they feel alone and fearful of trusting anyone too much else they get taken . . . again.

I think that's the real threat to him. Could be relatively smooth sailing - depends a lot on how he treated them, that is, whether or not any or many of them have residual bitterness. It would be an easy route to take methinks: at first I was sorta into it, then I felt pressured into continuing because he was my boss, etc.

If a number of women came forward with that account, could tarnish the regard he enjoys among his many fans, or possibly sour sponsors on associating their products with his name.

Reminds me of what a former landlord of mine, a retired US Army Lt. Col. once said: 'never screw around within a mile of the flagpole.' Letterman, I'm guessing, would have had many opportunities to meet up with available women who did not work for him. Then again, the camraderie one feels with a co-worker can lead to other things.

But I pretty much agree with remarks here about the downside of succumbing to a 2 bit extortionist. Jeez, the guy probably had a decent position, I would imagine a CBS producer position would have to be halfway lucrative - kiss that one goodbye. Guy even looks like a dunce.

Why should letterman worry about his reputation? Bill Clinton is still loved by all and even considered a pimp.

If you care too much what people think of you, you'd better watch what you do. I try not to do things I would be ashamed of, if everybdy knew about them.

Thanks.

My comment was a case of pointing out the obvious.

Akilm was projecting. Sour grapes is evidently the leading player in his life, with deflection being his only backup plan. Anyone surprised by that?

In your life, maybe. I have things I want to achieve but cannot but I don't run them down.

Who is it that brought up sour grapes? Your favorite pastime is evidently projecting and deflecting. The last 9 years of your life have been spent predominantly at this web site, writing endlessly about these 2 themes.

Quote:
It just comes up when I see people like you.
I really don’t want to know what “comes up” when you “see” a guy, but in your spare time, as just a suggestion, you might work on reading comprehension, and the use of English.

Quote:
I learned from you.
Deflection. Clearly you haven’t learned a thing in decades.

Quote:
Ah well, that shows it all on how small you think. I wouldn't worship a $100 bill. If I were to worship something, it would be way more than that.
At least you admit you worship money. Says it all.

Quote:
Edit: As to the female thing, nice try getting me to date you by telling me no female would want me. Sorry, not that type. Nice attempt. Of course, seeing that you are the sour grapes type, your expected response would be "No, not me. Even if I were gay, I wouldn't find you attractive" or something on that order.
Naturally you did not comprehend the comment and turn to projecting once again. Read slowly: I was pointing out that the only thing you could hope to get affection from is a dog.

And, while you’ll be disappointed, I’m not into guys. But while we’re on the topic of projecting, how come you use a girl for an avatar? I guess projecting and deflecting is your act. Makes your sour grapes comment a nice self-portrait.

BTW do you really own a dog or is that another part of the delusion?
