Public School administrators are brainless

Today, at an all school faculty meeting, the principle of my wife's high school, with no advance warning, projected on a screen to the whole faculty, the grades from all the teachers that they thought were giving too many 'F's'.
The idiocy of this is almost beyond belief. My wife was amongst the humiliated despite the fact that over her objections, the advisors steer the worst students into her classes since she teaches Drawing, assuming that even an idiot unmotivated student should be able to pass drawing. In addition, what kind of message does it send to hard working faculty members trying to improve the rigor of education, that if they fail a student, they will be humilated in front of their peers with no advance discussion of their apparent failings.
If the union has any balls at all, it will have a rep in that principal's office tomorrow morning. (Not that I have much confidence that a teacher's union will show much backbone.)

What can I say. That is some real bull$hit. Time for a little retaliatory humiliation I say.

Well, statistically your title doesn't hold water.

Like any elected official, a union rep will only have the cajones that the membership chose.

All I can say is if I were the art teacher instead of your wife, I wouldn't feel the least bit humiliated. I'd tell the principal to his face that my class is for learning, not happy happy fun time.

Is the "humiliation" that the students failed to learn?

Perhaps now the advisors that urged placement will learn their role in the situation.

The humiliation is the Principal telling the teachers in front of their peers that they are inadequate teachers because they are failing students.

You could have chosen the example where I spelled it correctly.

No argument about the union membership. Don't think that would have been a problem in the Western Federation of Miners or the IWW, but their members were predominantly males used to taking risks.

If I were an educator, I don't think I'd reach the same conclusion, that the teacher is inadequate, without more information than an oddly shaped bell curve. If the principal stated that as a conclusion without a more detailed basis, then your initial opinion may be correct.

Precisely. The first 4 students my wife looked up to whom she had awarded F's had failed ALL their classes. You'd think the principal would commend the faculty for having a uniform opinion about the quality of a given student's work.
I'd be much more suspicious of teachers who were awarding too many A's than one's awarding too many F's.

Thats totaly off, teachers don't fail students, students fail themselves.

One of my college professors said it the best, "you all have an A+ when you walk in here. Your performance will determine if you are going to keep it or not."

uh, what about the parents (of the failures) ???

all i know is, that while my folks were way too strict, at least i knew better than to ever bring home anything lower than a "b". (and never did)

the principal is an idiot; where did he/she pick up the fine management/people skills?

Two places I suspect. One is graduate level education administration classes. Where the principal is likely to have learned that any class can be passed without serious effort because the classes are nothing but BS.
Secondly, I strongly suspect the school district has offered the Principal a $$$ bonus for increasing graduation rates, hence the behavior.

My wife gave 7 F's in one class. Here are the student's academic records in the class. The first is the number of F's in the first 6 weeks of school and the second is their GPA:

4 .666
8 0
8 0
2 1.33
8 0
7 .488
2 1.74

obviously no ethics instruction in those grad admin classes? (as if you can/should need ? to teach ethics to....teachers? frightening)

so you have "social promotion", enforced by "peer pressure"?

(p.s. anyone with a ph.d in education / administration is automatically supsect in my book. bean counting and pop psychology. - just one man's opinion)

I had a modicum of respect for Ph.d.s in Education Administration until I made the mistake of asking a friend of mine who was completing his, how he would ever get the time to write a dissertation since he was working a full time job. No problem, he replied. He gets a week off at spring break and he had enough personal days to take another week. He would have no problem doing the research and completing his dissertation in 2 weeks.
