Some of my buddies always go to the Hilton head area each year to play golf...one of the courses they play has alligators around the water hazards so they kindof have to keep an eye out for them.
One day they were coming up to a t and there was a water hazard and on the other side was a pretty good sized gator....they were looking at it and talking about it when a ranger came up and started talking to them. They started in about the gator across the way and the ranger said..."I thought you would have been more concerned about that one right there" and he pointed to the one about ten feet from my friend who is well over 200# and over six feet but in college was a rather swift running back.... they said my friend went right through the golf cart in a flash and was standing on the other side of it from the gator so fast that they all about lost it laughing....

In FL you have to watch it near the water hazards.
I have seen a number of them on the golf course behind my grandparents place.
