Hinckley Picnic Boat MKIII

I am in love.

While reading the New York Times this morning I was blown away by the picture of the Hinckley Picnic Boat on the front page of the business section. Wow! Gorgeous boat.

Great boats, I love their sailboats. The Bermuda 40 is one heck of a boat.

Those jet boats are pretty pricey, but they are good boats. You can get cheaper eastern European knock off's...but the quality sucks.

If you like them you should look at Duffy and Fortier, Vicem are pretty to.

I read an article about that boat not long ago, beautiful boat. I don't remember the exact price but you could buy a decent house for what it costs.

Depending on the size several hundred thousand to well over a million.

Slip fee's are usualy based on the season, figure $100-$120 per foot up here.

Maintenance costs go up fast as the boat gets larger. Hinckley's are usualy kept very well. Varnish costs money, and those pretty blue hull's need to be kept indoors in the winter and painted from time to time. If you can't do it yourself you also need to pay for someone to clean the boat, and wax it during the season. For say something in the 40ft range your probably looking at $10k-$20k a season in fuel, and probably $20k-$30k a year for upkeep, insurance, and winter storage. Upkeep varies widley depending on what you can do yourself, and what the boat needs. But it can get quite high if you do a big project or any work to it. Doing a big varnish job on a large Hinckley can run $25k.

Very few of that kind of boat are bought with notes; majority are cash purchases. Most owners are CEO's or own their own business.

(And that is on a comparatively cheaper model compared to these Hinckleys)

I have to say that these boats have a very impressive cruising speed.

couple of pretty ones

It seems with boats that the sky is the limit. There was a classic boat show nearby 2 years ago. A guy shows up with 2 boats, the first ( if I remember correctly) is an original Cris Craft launch (brown) and then the reproduction. The reproduction was stunning, even up close. A black lacquer finish on it that would embarrass most pianos. The engine was "an italian V12".
I think boats can be the ultimate vice. You can never have enough money and there is always one nicer.

Wood boats great, I was on a classic 66ft Trumpy at the Norwalk boat show. I said to the owner that it was the nicest boat on the dock and they agreed.

One of the most pretty boats I have ever seen is Aphrodite. She is simply stunning, pictures don't do her justice.

She was constantly repowered to go faster and faster, finaly she was powered by triple Packard V12's, the LM2500's if I remember correctly.(PT boat motors) Every morning she would head in from his private island to pick up the paper and milk.

Now that is how to get into the office in style. Burning 500gph screaming down the Sound racing to Manhattan.

Currantly I think she is powered by a pair of CAT C12's.

yachts

If you have one your not worried how much it cost it,s only money and I have plenty of that, I can afford to pay someone to to maintain it.

I saw one of these a few years ago when I was out on a lake. I 100% could not even hear the engine running, it was surreal.
