US military pays $400.- a gallon for gas.

That's the total cost of a gallon of gasoline when it reaches the troops in Afghanistan. Just the Marines alone are using 800,000 gallons of fuel a day.

I see some business opportunities for the brave here.

Well, in Iraq when I was there, the KBR truck drivers made about $10,000 a month. I think the problem with Afghanistan is that the roads are too bad for a normal tank-trailer and semitractor in many places, so they have to go with smaller less efficient transports. Having to fly the stuff on helicopters is a real killer for cost efficiency.

BTW, they don't use much gasoline in the military anymore. It's mostly JP8, which is closer to diesel.

Its expensive to keep an army in the field, no way around that. More so when its in a place like Afghanistan.

All the more reason to get out.

So which should we do first? Get out of Afghanistan, or bankrupt the country?

What they should do is get some oil squeezers, and buy up the local poppy crop, and squeeze it. It should work like diesel, right??
It would probably also be about as entertaining as putting a mustard oil/peanut oil mixture in your diesel tank.... haha

Should we try to do everything we can to prevail before withdrawing?

If you notice the date on that post its 2006. We did try for 3 years since that post, now its time to get out.

What more can we do? How many troops are enough? 40k more? 400k? How much longer? I'm starting to think that its not a war you can win with an army.

Well in the same line of fire...Halliburton corporation (everybody knows who is the CEO) is paid $187.34 a DAY for every single personel in the US army in Iraq and Afghanistan for food. You do the maths...how many troops plus civilian contractors?
I am sure that here in the forum we have few veterans and they can vouch that they DON'T eat in a Italian Restaurant.

I did notice the date and that the topic was Iraq. I thought you, most recently, were referring to withdrawl from Afghanistan, the topic of this thread.
