Ridiculous MBCA S550 Seller

Saw this in this months Star Magazine.
2007 S550 Designo

"I love this car and it will have a good home. If you can't prove $300,00 net income annually don't call..."

Would any of you dignify this guy's request and provide that kind of information in order to have the opportunity to purchase his precious car?

I wouldn't do it (not that I make that kind of dough) short of him offering to sell it at a fraction of the going rate.

My guess is anybody who makes that kind of money would rather buy a new one than deal with this clown.

Yeah they do, its called "pre-qualifying" the buyer, but usually they're more subtle about it.

"The best price" is an opinion. It doesn't really have to mean anything.

I wouldn't even call the guy if he has that attitude...well, I might just to toy with him if I've had really bad day.

Do you have to be a MBCA member to see the ad???

And besides, making $300k per year does not necessarily mean you have a lot of income left over at the end of the month. My parents used to make somewhere near that, in todays dollars, and my mom managed to spend 110% of it, month after month.

Wow, I didn't realize how far I was behind my parents when they were about the same age I am now. (I just ran a few years, I know of through an inflation calculator.) My dad was very ambitious, and it rubbed off on me, for awhile. I decided it's not worth the stress.

If the person shows up to buy the car with the proper amount of cash, who cares how much they make? That is their problem, once they have the car.

Actually, it works the other way around. As a buyer, you want to pre-qualify the seller to be certain they can afford to properly maintain the car. I've been looking at 211 E55 cars and am surprised at the number that have the cheapest available tires installed - Falken or some such. Either they can't afford better, or are such non-car-guys they don't care. Not encouraging either way.

Back when I sold cars ( for about 6 months), people always asked, " Is this your best price?" Of course it is, and if I could get you to spend another thousand, the price would be even better!

Or they don't want to spend the money on quality tires for a vehicle they don't plan on keeping...

...my last two trade-ins had fresh Michelins on them at the time...STUPID!!!
