New Addition to the Household

Anastasia Kristina (the feral wonder) now has a little brother- his name is Nelson AhhhHAAAA) we adopted him yesterday from the local shelter. Nelson had a rough start, someone found him wandeing the streets and brought him to the shelter. Consequently, Nelson will need lots of "socialization" to bring him up to speed with the other kids and first contact between him and Anastasia was good, no hissing or spitting which is what I was prepared for. Nelson is 4 months old and a handsome B&W "Tuxedo" kitty. Pics to follow as soon as I can get him out of the closet. I named him after my friend who passed away this summer.

Does your feral wonder let you touch her?

We have a feral cat (got him when he was maybe 2 month old or so). When we first got him it took a few weeks for him to get to the point were he would let me hold him. When he got to be 6 month old, I put him in his crate and took him to the vet to be fixed. That was the last time I have held him when he was conscious. Now I only get to hold him when the vet gasses him to get a check up. I guess he holds a grudge.

Funny you should mention that...I worked with Anastasia alot- you couldn't get near her i got her when she was 9 weeks old. she would hiss, spit and bite. 14 years later, she will sit next to you and meow for you to pet her. I can pick her up if i get behind her and do the stoop-n-swoop. She doesn't resist. getting her to the vet...another story i have to put an aceproezeine pill in a gel-filled cat treat and waaaalaaaaa 4 hours later she becomes a lap cat!. I wanted to tell you Dave- Nelson looks like the kitten you transported awhile back for HDExpert on the Forum.

AFAIK our kitty, Lucy, was ferel, but she won't confirm or deny the issue. We picked her up off the street, and has been the best kitty ever. She follows my wife around the yard like a puppy and sleeps beside her every night. The joy she has brought us is immeasurable, and she now lives the life of a Powerball winner for kitties.

We got a young kitten from the shelter. For the first few months I'd get on the floor and bat her around like another kitten might do. Ever since then, she seems to have thought that I am her brother and treats me like another kitten, hiding behind furniture and launching surprise attacks. It's not a bad life, being a cat.

My best cat is feral. We found tabby at our condo and took him in. I've never seen a more sweet and friendly cat then this one.

I almost feel bad we leave him outside in the bard, then again we let him in when he's outside on the porch

This fellow was living under the deck at the house across the street. The people thought it was mine and brought him to me this June because I feed quite a few feral and non feral cats. I find homes for them when I can and provide food and shelter for the others. We call him Whiskers and has been living inside ever since. Good little guy somewhat shy at times. http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2813937500092123307UMcwTN

funny how they remember

Years ago I was doing a bunch of woodworking in the garage, with the door open ( and we live out in the country). I noticed something scurry by and go behind some plywood. After a little investigation I saw it was a tiny kitten, probably 3-4 weeks old. I got our 2 daughters who were 4 & 2 at the time. We put out a few pieces of cheese, some hot dog, and some milk. We sat in the middle of the garage about 10 feet from where the kitten was hiding. He would eventually poke his head out and start going towards the food. Now after a 10 minute wait a 2 year old gets pretty excited. She screams, the kitten runs for cover back behind the plywood. Repeat this a few times over the next few days. Eventually my daughter remained quiet, the kitten ate some food, and we all got to know each other. About 3 weeks later he was friendly enough to pick up, would purr, and then became a house pet. Although, he never did like my younger daughter and would flinch when she came around. 8-).

Mistress, you're to be commended for your dedicated work with feral cats and feral men. Your house is truly a refuge to certain disenfranchised members of both groups.
