1979 W116 300SD 722.120 Transmission shifting problems

I am a nube to the MB world but so far enjoying it. My Benz 1978 300sd is slipping between 2 and 3 and I am wondering if there is a band adjustment or any thing that I can do to stop this issue. The oil has no funny smells and according to every thing I have read the color is like a blood red. I did find that it was about 32 oz over full (running in park warm) and then I used some "sea foam" and that only seam to make it worse. Need help before I make a bad mistake.

Did you remove the excess transmission fluid and it still happens?

Your transmission shifting points are controlled by the position of the bellcrank near the valve cover and the softness/crispness is controlled by a vacuum modulator. There are no band adjustments (except for reverse on the 722.120).
Not sure if it can be fixed without a rebuild, depending on how many miles on it, or how much fluid is blowing past the clutch packs

There are countless threads on how to adjust these transmissions- please do a search or post your question over on "Diesel Discussion".

Your problem is called 'flaring'. Search on it. There are tons of threads. It's usually caused by too much vacuum to the transmission. You can easily test this by removing the vacuum line from the transmission modulator and seeing if the shifting stiffens. If it does you'll need to reduce the amount of vacuum going thru that line. There are many discussions of this topic and one thread with a very long discussion of how to achieve this so I won't repeat it.
Putting this thread in the diesel discussion will get more responses.
