Nice Dodge!

http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/clips/1970-hotchkis-dodge-challenger-340-ta/1173444/?__cid=thefilter

Not all Dodge's are junk!

I like resto mods like this, one day I would like to do a Mustang. I'd go one step further and put a modern fuel injected motor in it. Fuel injection just works so much better than carbs.

I've decided that I will not wait 30 seconds and be forced to watch their asinine commercials. Nothing's worth the wait.

Everyone should do the same.

I clicked on it before I read your post and the thought came independently to me that the wait was way too long. I almost navigated away but got up to do some small thing. Turned out to be an excellent video. Sweet Lord, motorheads everywhere are either going to weep or have wet dreams watching that.

Most hot rod mechanics can make the engine go fast, sorta. Servicing the existing suspension is tough enough, but actually bolting in new, advanced suspension tech is unavailable to most guys, AFAIK. Imagine if you had an old classic you liked even though you knew it's knees were over the hill, and then getting it back after the sort of transformation this fellow can pull off. Would be almost surreal, like if you'd had an NBA player's coordination and quickness transplanted onto your very own bod.

I wanted to graft my 1957 Nomad body on to a modern Impala SS chassis. I had the '57 and the '96 Impala, but could never force myself to go through with it. The frame of the Impala would have basically matched up to the 1957 body (Gee imagine Chevy never changing their mounting points or drive train positions in 40 years) with some persuasion.

I did see somebody else do a similar chassis transplant and having a 1957 with a modern LT1 , 4l60e, disc brakes, 9C1 suspension, etc was SWEET and FAST...

I would rather see a straight restoration.

Me too, expecially if it is my money. As for the nomad update, I would do it only if it could be done non destructively. Nomads are pretty rare these days and valuable stock.

I don't understand the whole modern hot rod thing, the point of driving an old car is to avoid all the new clap trap. IMO, that's no better than the silly new mustangs and camaros. Anybody can do this by just writing a check, what's the point?

If someone must do a hot rod, at least do a period correct hot rod.

One of the reasons I could never bring myself to do it.

I saved the car from a guy who had bought it to go "Pro Street" with it! He had the tubs already built and was going to start cutting the body when I made him an offer he could not refuse in other words $$$$

While I loved the car in its original form, I had to do things like upgrade the crappy drum brakes to front discs for safety reasons, add seat belts for the same reason and do away with the points and the old Holley carb (OK not original) for driveability reasons.

Having an old car is fun, but not if it leaves you on the side of the road which these cars did when they were new -- a lot!

i eventually lost both of them in the D-I-V-O-R-C-E .. the Nomad going to some guy for $2000 with my Buick GS 455 Convertible thrown in for free! (ex wife discount autos) and the Impala going for legal bills...

I can appreciate the full gamut from full restoration/concours to resto-mod to hot rods. That Challenger is pretty slick. I like the idea that it's primarily stock/OEM except for the suspension components, which are bolt-on and could be removed to replace it with the stock components in the future if so desired.

My pipe dream is a matte black '59 Cadillac Fleetwood Limo (family cruiser) on airbags, rear tubs and a chipped Duramax.

Old cars drive like crap, I love the look and feel but I want to be able to go around corners and stop with modern traffic.

Of course you can even do extreme things like this!

I am doing a full up suspension change on my 62 corvette. I have a tube chassis with 99 corvette running gear. the 62 is such a crappy driving and performing car, I just hated driving it. except for looks, it offered nothing. I hope to finish it someday, I will daily drive it. I whole heartedly agree with an update, especially if you like to drive them. if it is a show peice then you shouldnt touch it, but this kit is somewhat reversable so its not quite as bad as a wholesale swap out.

The only problem watching Leno's Garage is how many times he interupts what the other person is saying. I kept wanting to hear what they wanted to say and Leno would cut him off.

I too would be intimidated by that. That's amazing that it would sorta match up, the frame and drivetrain, but I can easily imagine various problems with cramming this or that into the available space, or making attachment points line up.

Stuff like that can have you gnashing your teeth. Major time and $$ to get some simple ass thing to do its function. Makes me appreciate the full power of an engineering team and auto construction tech.
