I'm still in the hospital and watched most of it last night. I can't wait for tonight- the Pacific theater. I lived in Micronesia for a decade on Saipan, Guam and Palau, so the footage there will be exciting for me.

The series will likely be available on DVD after it airs.

You can pre-order the DVD set on the History Channel website for $29.95.

I'm trying to get rid of all my physical media, ripping all my DVDs to hard drives and downloading everything new that I buy. The goal is to be disc-free.

The cable company just changed the format of their signal, so now I've got yet another set top box to decode the normal cable signal so I can tape it.
I've got a computer with a 250 GB hard drive. I just need to figger out how to hook my TV up to it.

Depending on the computer and the TV, you should be able to get an output that can be converted to a TV input. You will probably just have to find the correct cables.

I'm guessing that we are about 5 years away from having all our "TV" provided from our internet providers instead of dedicated cable devices. You can sorta do it now, but it's not seamless yet. Eventually, the TV "box," game console, and computer media player will all be the same box. I look forward to having less clap-trap in the living room.

While I am interested in WW II history and color footage as others here, I do get annoyed by the use of footage from a different part and time of the war to support the narration. For example, while discussing Nazi atrocities against civilians in the early part of the war color footage of civilians killed by the British bombing of Hamburg was shown. I also can't stand the use of post WW II boundaries when showing maps of Europe during the war. It's just not historically accurate. Thanks for letting me rant.

The Marshall island segment last night was good. I've been to Kwaj about a dozen times, and several friends live there. It's restricted so you have to be invited to visit. I nearly took a job there but it was unaccompanied so the wife and kids could not come with, and that killed it for me. Tonight is the Marianas/Palau campaigns- where I lived for a decade. Tinian's airfields are amazing. My first job on Saipan had bullets washing up after every storm. Tanks are still in the lagoon. Suicide cliff has monster craters from incoming shell fire. I did quite a bit of caving there and found loads of WWII era stuff. Palau is God's marine disneyland. Plenty of WWII stuff there, and less "picked over". Hundreds of sunk ships and planes. I was a dive guide and later a fishing guide/captain.

You better have a foolproof backup system.

Definetly, there are two kinds of hard drives; those that have failed and those that will fail. Fortunately, hard drives are now dirt cheap.
