Unhappy Turned 50 today...does AARP start contacting you?

Played this day down for the most part, and told my loved ones to do the same.

I guess I'm supposed to feel great that I've gotten this old in life relatively healthy.

Except that instead of feeling good about it, I spent the day doing metrics on how my life would have turned out if I hadn't made so many horrible decisions along the way.

Anyone else find themselves doing this or do you just move on and expect to make more bad decisions as time goes on?

Too late for regrets. Bite the bullet and move one. Be prepared for an onslaught of AARP solicitations. My wife simply conceded and joined.

A cool dude I used to hang with in Seattle once said "Hey! Don't you know regret is the mafia of the mind?"

Unfortunately, I'm unable to take those words to heart. I spend way too much mental energy replaying the many boneheaded decisions and actions in my life.

I got one or two AARP letters. Haven't joined. 65 is the biggie. The number's a drag but you get Medicare. I think.

Talking

The trick is to recognize what caused the bad decisions to be made and not allow yourself to get into that set of circumstances any more.

Like the Indians say, what's done or said cannot be undone/unsaid. So learn and move on.

Overall, I bet your life has been pretty damn good.

When we consider how far along civilization has come, you have probably had a 98% ok life, which is made better by the 2% which was not ok.

Think of what you could have:

- Chronic, painful, debilitating disease or condition due to an accident, making you a quadriplegic;
- a mental condition that makes you need constant care and unable to enjoy even the simple things of life;
- life in a dictatorship where fear and poverty are everywhere, and the state decides your work, the size of your family, etc.

Use the AARP for useful things like discounts on products and the opportunity to meet attractive women over 40 No actually, it's all good.

PS, you can always send me their number if you are unavailable.

Join the club.

I've made a few bad one's and a few good one's............I try to learn from the bad one's.............but, I realize that many of them were due to outside forces that I could not control unless I had clairvoyance.

I need a few more good decisions...........as time is running out for correction on any bad one's.

Fifty is just another opportunity to have a party.
Or not.

Be glad you made it. When I made that threshold ( a few years back) I recall thinking how many of my schoolmates never made it to 50.
Keep things in perspective, and always ogle cute young 40 something women

They will send you an application.

Yea, the mistakes part does give pause for thought, but don't dwell on it. You can't go back and change past history. Focus on the next 50 years instead.

How in the hell did I miss THAT? Happy birthday G!

When I started getting AARP stuff in the mail, I thought they were crazy. I mean that $h!t is for old people, not me. Now, I'm halfway to 60 (shudder . . . )

I hope you have a terrific birthday and everybody treats you great today.

Like MTI says, "50 is the new 35."

I'm approximately 37 at this point . . .

I turned 50 a few months ago - It really didn't seem a big deal to me as I already perform those aforementioned metrics routinely. And yes, those mother****ers from AARP start sending you implicit reminders that it's time to pick up a Crown Vic, a grey fedora, and a Mister Rodger's sweater...
