Got a scooter today

Neighbor gave me her 150cc chinese scooter today since it wouldn't start and she didn't want to spend any money on it. I got it running on starter fluid so I think the carb is probably gummed up with old gas.
Have the owner's manual, which is hilarious. The English is virtually incomprehensible.
Haven't figured out the motor yet. I assumed it was a 2 cycle, being a scooter, but it has an oil sump in the motor and it takes straight gasoline, so I'm thinking it must be a 4 cycle. Any insight on this? Too much plastic around the engine to get a clear look at it. I'm thinking if it were an oil injected 2 cycle, it wouldn't have a sump in the motor?

The website, in fairly good English, claims their scooter engines are all 4-stroke.

true. A 4-stroke will have a camshaft (somewhere) and poppet valves in the head. a 2-stroke will just have ports

In order for a 2-stroke to have a wet-sump oiling system (like a car), it'd have to be supercharged or turbocharged - and those would be easy to spot to.

But the website (above) is prolly most accurate =)

I really can't see much of the engine, that's why I asked. There's plastic body parts completely surrounding it. So I'll take the word of the website that it's a 4-stroke. I like that.

How old is it? Two-smokes were forced off the market a couple years ago due to tightening motorcyle emission laws. I'd bet it's four-stroke. Also expect you are correct that the carb jets a plugged with old gasoline gums. A good cleaning and I bet it runs OK.
