Bought a 67 Mustang

To go along with the 05, but this one is not a convertible. I'll know more when I get it home, but it's a six banger, was a 3 speed now auto. I'll be on the lookout for a 67 three speed very soon. Color has been changed, was Frost Turquoise, now is black. Can't wait to cruise around in it.

looks like a coupe but cant tell if its a coupe or fastback, congrats on the car. nix the 3speed and get a 4 speed, just put a 3 speed knob on and no one will be the wiser. better yet, since its non-original put the 6 cyl in a bag in the shed and put in a 5 liter and 5 speed. it will be much more enjoyable to drive with a rumble.

Nice Tony! The 67's are one of my favorite years.

Nice car, I always liked the old Mustangs.

I'd get a Tremec five-speed, and one of these.

You can order a Marti report on it, should be interesting.

It's a notchback. The basic six cylinder automatics were called the"Secretary Special" ones back in the day by enthusiasts, back in the early seventies, good examples could be bought for $600 - $900 all day long and parts were available ALL over the junkyards.

To me those were the best year and style of them, bar none. Those '67 notchbacks look fabulous even today!

Even for me, the 1967 Cougar I had, the cousin to this, was easy to work on.

If it were me, I would restoreyours back to original, should not be hard, even including the repaint to turquoise frost.

Just my opinion. the car doesn't look to be very hacked up though.

Make a V8 muscle car too, though, whatever you would like.

It's a two door hardtop, sorry bout the crappy pics. I have a butt ton, but am at work so could only post a couple. It's pretty original, except for the transmission and paint color. Hattie, you read my mind!!! I am caught between a resto (who wants to look at a stock 6 banger no option car?) or a restomod with a 32V motor. Decisions, decisions.. Since I have the Camaro though, it'll probably be a simple resto, nothing concourse. Quick respray in the original color, possibly leaving the auto trans in but getting a correct shifter, and carpet/headliner/radio. That should be it. Easier would be to leave it black, and that may be the way to go. I'm partial to black cars.

Better be willing to upgrade the front crossmember and the front spindles. The 67 was never intended to carry anything but a Straight 6 289 CDI and dropping a 302 in will surely result in serious frame and camber issues. I went through this with a friend who bought a 67 2+2 and soon found out what he could and could not do without serious $$ invested. Addition of the factory shock tower brace is manditory to stop them from morving inward as the front Xmember bows downward.

Example-have you checked the corrosion under the cowl panel where the 2 top hat passages are? 99% of ALL Mustangs have major rust and corrosion here as there was a serious deficency in the design of the cowl drains, the resulty is rust straight thru the cowl, firewall and floor pan. Not cheap to fix.

Same with the rear quarters due to pinhole rust under the rear window trim, one way in no way out. Ever wonder about all the stangs with a series of holes drilled up into the bottom of the quarter panels?

Not saying they are not fun toys but as a daily driver they lack a lot-steering for one, a Kia Rondo steers better! But there are lots of aftermarket fixes that will maker the engine work like new.

Leave the 289 in and hook up a C-4 with a Centerline clutch and you will be surprised!

nah, 67 could be had with a FE big block. should be fine with 5 lug upgrade. if your worried add the shock tower supports from a couger, and monte carlo bar. they make spark plug changes a pain though, at least on the FE. you will need to upgrade to 5 lug rotors and a bigger axle in the back, but it would be a fun car.

If I want a money pit, I just look at the Camaro. This is most likely going to be just a cruiser. 6 banger is fine for that.

i'll second the rust.here in iowa we call them rustangs and for good reason.if there was 100,000 of them in the state 99,500 would have rusted thru floorboards.about 20 years ago in my dads shop i went to raise a customers pride and joy 66 mustang on the hoist.and it proceded to push right up thru the floor.i had to stop and let it back down and told him i would not lift his car.he got kinda pissed about it,but i wasn't gonna be responsible for destroying his car.or risk it falling off the hoist.so check it over good for rust.

The 289 and 302 are pretty much the same engine.

Looks like fun

I had a '67 convertible / 289 back in college. It was a really fun car. If you have 4 drum brakes watch for fade.... I ran out of brakes a few times. I used to follow a bunch of the mustang mags and forums while i had my '92 convertible. Back a few years ago you could get a HO 302 longblock for under $2K new from Ford. That would be pretty plug compatible with a 289.

Good luck with your project!
Chuck

Mustang II front spindles and a 9 inch rear from a late 80's will give you 4 wheel discs plus the power booster and res and underdash pedal bracket.

Won't this still bind you to using the 4-bolt wheel lug pattern?
