I host a small Aquarium site and needless to say it's Floundered... so I was wondering if there were any Website people here who could help. i've put in all the meta tags etc involved with the site, I'm listed in google etc but i just cant seem to get many hits to the site, and no legitimate forum joins in a long time... Any suggestions?

If you are willing to pay for advertising to drive up traffic, Google Adwords might work, but it can get expensive.
What is the basis of the site? Informational? Retail? If its retail you will need to advertise it to get any real traffic.

I'm not internet expert, but I think one of the reasons this site is so scucessful is because its well orginized and full of helpful info. I tell people in the real world to come to this site all the time because I know with a little reading they will get their problem solved.
Try and get people to contribute to topics like we have here in the resources tab. also If you can get threads with pictuer of peoples step by step complete projects. I know I love reading those threads. what is your website? I know a few Aquarium junkies, I'll post it on my social networking sites, see if any of them will help ad content to your page.

Also: benchmark successful websites, boith those in your area and those in other areas. The question is: Who is successful at driving web traffic? Google that and find out. It's all there, ya just gotta manipulate the info.

Thanks, It's not my work however, I wish it was.. it was a template from Free-css.com I think it is. I do have a facebook page, It's been up since the site's been up. I diddnt do a myspace one. however... that place is being overrun by ads and angsty teenagers with lousy haircuts.

When I first got my Benz I googled "Benz forums" and benzworld.org came up. I also discovered peachparts shortly too. Try and get a bunch of friends posting. Get that base of useful information up first. Oh and myspace is dead. No one I know uses it anymore.

It is about to be reinvigorated with billions from Rupert Murdoch. They may have offers that will help you. Speaking of which, do you really care if your customers have bad haircuts, as long as they click BUY after they input their CC number? What's important to you? That question often separates the amateur from the merchant by varying degrees of success....

I was an avid aquarist on & off in the early 70's, then again in early 80's, and again for a lot of the 90s.
As the web became more popular, the rec.aquaria.* newsgroups seemed to lose popularity as graphical websites blossomed. The sites I gravitated to were the ones more focused toward a specific type of aquaria, such as the planted aquaria, cichlid, discus, or marine reef. I became very active on quite a number of these for many years. They all seemed to have a very large following. Perhaps narrowing your scope of interest / discussion might draw folks in? It's been more than 6 years since I left the hobby, so I'm sure things have changed a bit, but I imagine different specific type enthusiests still flock to sites with like interests. Have you tried getting links to your site posted on local club sites? The Washington DC area club site http://www.pvas.com/ seems quite active. I used the site to sell off several $K worth of tanks & equipment last year. One post on the site yielded a large turnout of strong backs, Pickup Trucks, & Minivans to empty out my garage of close to 1000 gallons worth of tanks & equipment. All the more room for MB's Last edited by Stoneseller; 12-04-2009 at 06:40 PM. |
