Digital picture frame buying advice
I think I'll get my sister and her husband a digital picture frame for Christmas. This idea came about after browseing Ebay for gift ideas. I know nothing about digital frames. I know that I want at least 10"--don't want to look too cheap with anything smaller.
There seems to be a lot of no-name brands (or at least brands I've never heard of before) on Ebay that cost between $70-99 in the 10" range. Is it okay to buy generic when it comes to digital frames or should I stick with brands like Kodak and Polaroid? What is a good resolution? I see that the expensive ones have at least 800x400 something. Any recommendations? My budget is $100 max |

You should look for Philips 10.4" digital frame. I don't remember what was the exact model but it is up to a 1000 pictures: 800 x 600 screen resolution, clock and calendar and every human favorite feature: Remote control
It cost just under $100.00 Best buy or Walmart.

Yep, just look for decent resolution (800x600 or better) and a remote etc....I have a smaller generic one that my wife found at a local store for like $18 last year Black Friday....its pretty good.....5x7 screen....but hey. It even has a remote.

resize your pictures to get more on the frame
Once you get frame, resize your pictures before putting them on the frame. You don't need a 5mb image, the frame will just resize the resolution down anyway.

I bought my wife a 10" Kodak EasyShare last year at Malwart and we really like it. The colors are vivid and it's got good resolution. List price is $129 but I know I got it on sale for around $79. It's got some interchangeable mattes to match the room colors if so desired (easy enough to paint to match, too, and just pop into the frame). It's as simple as plugging in a memory stick or card which is handy.
I've got a 5-ish" EasyShare on my desk at work that's a few years old and the pics still look great. Anytime I think it's getting dim I just wipe the film of dust off it and it looks like new. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the known-name ones out there in that price range.

Thanks for the tips, guys. After reading Pavka's post I went to Wal-Mart and sure enough I saw the Philips for $99. I was tempted but I rode my bike that day to get some groceries, so I decided not to buy it on the spot. Good thing because later that week I remembered Newegg. They usually have some nice deals. Yep, found an even better digital frame for an even better price!

Hi guys,
It's a nice idea about the topic I like it. I think nowadays everybody should know about it like the advent of digital picture frames, you can showcase many photos in one frame-a benefit for new parents, grandparents or any photography buff. In addition to making it possible for you to cycle through a slideshow of your favorite photos, some digital picture frames allow you to accompany the images with music or narration Consumer reports recommends that before you buy a digital picture frame, you check the aspect ratio, resolution and connections. |
