I felt like doing this

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,579883,00.html
I lived in a gated community in Fl for 5 years and I felt like doing what this woman did. I remember getting nasty notes because are lawn wasn't perfect even though there was a drought and water rationing. The people who ran the association watered every day so I called the water dept. on them. We got letters from the association all the time for stuff.
Never again

Horizontal Property Regimes, Condominium, Planned Community, and other forms of organized property ownership systems aren't a good fit for everyone.

I had that issue. They sent us a letter because our lawn was dead and nothing but dirt. Helloo, McFly, anyone home? We were in the process of re sodding the front lawn. Apparently you have to let the SS know when you're going to be doing anything to your home.

I got my revenge oh boy did I get my revenge. The association heads dont follow water rationing laws so I made sure they did.

Running the risk of being referred to as Mr. Cliche'... Don't get mad, get even. Revenge is a dish best served cold. I did some winners on my neurotic, anal retentive hoople neighbors.

I heard in some instances that associations can evict you from your home?

Is this true for you guys? I feel like those associations need to be deteethed. I'd ignore those nasty grams and just live in a tastefully decorated house that looks no different then anyone else.

Unlawful painting? That's funny, since she painted it on her own house.

I kinda wish she would separate Hitler and communism. I would have given her major kudos for an Orwell quote

Correct. Which is why I am puzzled as to why they chose to insert themselves in such a situation. No offense to gay men but I don't think a gay orgy is for me. Why would I want to sign up for one AND THEN ***** about how much my butt hurts and my mouth is sore tomorrow?

When I lived in one of these places I got letters because I worked on my own cars and always had one parked in the driveway even though my neighbor kept at least 3 cars in his driveway. most of the various neighbors were such jerks that when we sold we were able to pick between a few buyers so we picked the ones that we were sure to bug the jerks. We didn't know what those kind of communities were like until we move in. Now we have land and are back on the other end of the country and it feels much better.

Most of us on this forum DIY on our cars. I wonder how many have been harrassed as a result? I have heard that it is quite common. Apparently changing your own oil or having your car jacked up to replace your brakes isn't a good "look" for many HOAs.

I purposely bought in a subdivision with no HOA (not so common here in TX). As for neighbors who regularly let their maintenance slip, that's what the city code enforcement phone number is for.
