Temple Grandin

Professor Grandin seems like an interesting character. She is a high-functioning autistic person, a full professor at Colorado State, and a well-known expert in livestock handling. They say that about half the beef produced in the United States comes from farms and/or processing plants that use her livestock handling concepts. I have several animal lovers on my Christmas list and was thinking of getting them books written by Professor Grandin.

Anybody know anything about her? She seems to have a lot to offer concerning animal behavior and autism.

Here is her amazon.com page:http://www.amazon.com/Temple-Grandin/e/B000AP9AQU/ref=sr_tc_2_0

Yep, met her when she came to speak here at work. Can't really handle a casual, informal conversation but is great at telling stories and answering direct questions. She's kind of "geeky" and awkward in person, speaking in a "sound bite" sort of way.

She's really saucy too, tells it like it is!

I have her book: "Animals in Translation".

A friend of mine works for Cargil and they use her as a consultant for their meat production facilities.

This is why I like this forum so much. That book looks like a really good read!

Fascinating person. Heard her interviewed in NPR once. There are some big advantages to thinking like an animal.
