Been there, done that. It hurts, plain and simple. It will hurt less intensely less often, eventually.

Big hugs from Darling Wife, me, and all ten of our critters (though you may want to wear the falconer gloves when getting Wiggle's hug - she's our PTSD kitty).

My condolences, it sucks losing a dog they are the best friends you can ask for.

Stimpy I'm so sorry. It's only been a week for us and I still go out to the couch every night to say good night to our little basset, she loved to sleep there. We have been through this so many times and I know some day it will get better but for now for both your family and mine it hurts.

Well maybe a little joy for this thread.

Here's Barney, our new addition, I won't say a replacement for Tuvie.

14 weeks, maybe 15 lbs, loves the snow and amazingly well behaved.

It will be quite awhile until our terrier mix departs hopefully. He is about 1/2 sky terrior. He is also ten now and still in good health. Of all the dogs we have had over a lifetime he has been the best.

He was trained by our older cat when first brought home and the results were impressive. Intellect and ability to understand human speech are excellent. Behaviours are always good. Integation into the family is beyond reproach.

For his loyalty and love of the family and our love of him. Like our other dogs that basically lived out all their years with us. I will reluctantly take him to the vet someday when he is suffering and beyond help.

I find it very upseting to do so yet feel the release from that situation will be the least I can do in return for what he has been and meant to us. .

We of course hope for a painless natural death but in too many cases there has been an uncurable situation present causing too much pain to allow it. A new dog does somewhat mitagate the situation. Yet starts the same sad cycle over again.

It once again is very, very painful to go in my opinion. Just the best course of action when the need is indicated. I do believe if he had the understanding of the situation and free choice he would approve of the action. All I know it is a sad sad thing to lose a good pet of long standing. It is like losing a member of the family that they actually have become.
