Local store to carry 14mm hex key?

I went to autozone, sears, home depot...
None of them have a hex key bigger than 10mm.

Any other local places I might find this key (California) ? I need it to do the rear diff fluid. Or any other ideas to makeshift something?

Thanks!

I doubt it. 14mm hex sockets (and it's 1/2" drive at that size) are available, but it's more of a tool truck (Snap On, Matco) type item, and they might have to order it anyway. Biggest thing I found at Sears was a 1/2" hex key, and that's a bit smaller than 13mm, so probably not useful to you for that application.

I would try NAPA or Car Quest. I got a set of 1/2" drive bits from a Car Quest store, but it was pricey and they had to order it. About $80, if I recall correctly.

What you want is a Hex socket. Sears and NAPA should have them in stock. If not and you don't want to pay Snap-on $$$ try to find a S-K dealer. Good luck.

I feel your pain man.

I drove around and couldn't find that darn hex key either.

BUT much to my luck my Autozone actually had the sockets! They came in a 1/2inch drive and I didn't have the adapter for it.

Try NAPA or Carquest. You might have some luck there. Also if you give up the internet can yield some help as well.

Yeah that makes sense.

Did you call the store? I find that when I call them they're very lazy and never really look. From experience working in retail I don't they're looking really hard.

Go to your nearest Autozone and see if you can find them. They should stock them.

What I did was I got a coupling nut (the long kind for coupling threaded rod together). I got one that used a 9/16" wrench. I don't remember the thread size. I just stuck that in the 14mm allen bolt and used a 9/16" wrench or socket on it.

A 3/8" screw or nut usually takes a 9/16" wrench.

You were looking in the wrong place, autozone sells a "differential drain plug set" for like $8, it has a 12mm, 14mm and 16mm allen key socket in it. Its very well made, I've used mine about 7-8 times now with 0 issues. It is 1/2" drive.

I managed to find a set at Harbor Freight for $14.99. It had 6-10mm, 12, 14, and 17. Not too bad. Did have to drive quite a way to the nearest one though...

Worked great!

I can't say that I'm sorry for paying $80 for a set of S-K bits, but of course they are available a lot cheaper.
