I don't really follow ricers, so I don't know their prices. He didn't really care about the cost, he just saw it and decided he wanted one. Personally I think it looks a little too "boy racer," but it's his car. He also has a few newer harleys, something else I don't "get."

If you're going that route what about a nice 260 Z, plenty to choose from.

I like the 240 better, but certainly nothing newer than a 260.

Weren't the 1st gen 280Z's fuel injected? Better drivability than the smogged, carbed 260's

But, have you ever looked at one.

The 240 was a presentable ferrari rip-off, they didn't exactly get more attractive over the subsequent years.

I've owned 240Z 260Z 280Z and I remember them being kind of sexy and pleasant, the word fun didn't ever come to mind. After owning every kind of sports car you can think of.......MIATA is FUN! There is a tremendous support group network, clubs, aftermarket performance parts & upgrades galore. Reliable++
Check this one out with a LS6...... Killa dilla!

The pre-'79 280z's look very similar to the 240 and the 260. In '79 they got that awful 80's look with bench-bucket seats and a full barrage of square styling. I do think that the 240s were the best looking of the bunch, but I'd happily settle for a pre-79 280 for the right price.

The L28 engine got fuel injection after the carbureted 2.4. In '79 they began to offer a turbo version of the L28 which is a popular direct swap for the Z's. Funny how this thread has touched upon EVERY car I think I ever (practically/realistically) wanted. The Z is my ultimate dream car...1971 JDM 240Z fitted with a RB26DETT modded to 400-500hp, slight widebody treatment with deep 5-6 spokes...

That does sound interesting, I just don't like the looks of the later versions.

Was the 912 engine significantly lighter than the 911 six? I'm curious if the 912 of that era was less tail-happy than the pre-'69 (short wheelbase) 911.

I actually prefer the '77-'78 280 bumpers, finding them a bit more flattering than the '74-'76 260 American bumpers. Naturally, the early chrome bumpers were the best.
