My 78 y/o father is on that list. Pain in the butt on family trips getting through check in. The person they are trying to exclude is in their 40's.

Another episode of Security Theater. I understand the the existence of these silly lists makes some "security moms" more comfortable, but who are we kidding?

This silly show is costing serious money and doing real damage to the airlines. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to put this ridiculous "genie back in the bottle" without everyone getting their panties in a bunch about "security."

Thats the problem. Makes all the safety people happy, until their kids get patted down.

Profile and dump the security BS. Only those who are more concerned about political correctness will get their panties in a bunch.

LOL

How about we just dump the whole silly thing, profiling included, before it costs any more money.

The current system is probably capable of catching a mildly retarded terrorist who happens to be on a list and uses his own ID.

Profiling is probably capable of catching a mildly retarded terrorist who happens to be on a list and uses his own ID; if he happens to look like he's from the middle east (or should we include everyone who doesn't look like they're from Iowa?).

There's nothing silly about profiling. Ask El Al.

I've already commented on what should be done. People for whom political correctness and unreality is more important than reality would doubtless get their panties in a twist about it.

The problem is that it won't work against anyone smarter than jz, and it will still cost money and cost the airlines even more business. How much hassle/ expense are you willing to impose to provide the illusion of security to the masses?

I have no interest in the illusion of security, which is why I would like to see all the screening crap dumped forthwith. That right there would save millions, perhaps billions that would be better spent in actual intelligence gathering and data mining. Of course that in itself will not work as long as our intelligence services remain a disjointed bunch of career beaurocracies guarding their own turf and putting political correctness before security.

I want the government to do it's damm job. Namely, get a clue and prosecute the war. That means stop wasting billions harassing the innocent and don't pretend airline companies need to foot the bill because the government is to damm incompetent to do so. Just how much were private airlines responsible for security during WWII? Not one damm cent I'd venture to say.

Security will never be absolute, no matter who is in charge. But twice since 911 it's been shown loud and clear that the "billions" wasted on "security" are just that, "wasted". Only luck and the actions of passengers themselves averted two more disasters. Anybody who think's that the money flushed down the toilet of governmental incompetence under those circumstances is acceptable is so far removed from reality they may as well go live on an island.

Hopefully they have enough to purchase their own so that reality wont disturb their elysian world view.

- Peter.

Good luck selling that to anyone with any actual authority.
