Any one see it? I just got back. We saw it in 3D at an IMAX theater. Awesome movie. The story line is a bit old (seems like a spine off of Dances with Wolves" but the movie it's self is unlike anything I have seen. The animation is on an entirely different level. I agree with those who have said it is ground breaking. The realism is almost scary.

The cost is a bit crazy but I do not regret going. If you are going to go see it, see it in 3d and go to IMAX if you can. Not a movie you want to see on DVD at home.

I saw it in IMAX 3D as well. What I liked was that the 3D was not in your face like in most #D movies. It was very subtle but once you see a movie done this way you wil have a hard time seeing a movie in 2D again. They just seem 'flat' pun intended!

The story was pretty trite, but it was entertaining. I know I did not feel the passage of almost 3 hours!

I saw it in 2D. Dances with wolves in the 25th century. I did like it though. The technology was swectacular. I'm contemplating seeing it in 3D for comparison purposes.

Let us know if you do. I am curious how the 3D affects the perception. Watching it in 3D I got a sense of being in it to a degree. the motion and the idea of being in the midst of the battles was pretty cool. I must admit to getting a bit dizzy a few times in the beginning till I got used to the motion.

Tried...

My wife and I tried twice over the holidays - but it was always sold out... we tried again last Sunday, thinking the Holiday crazyness is over, but no... was sold out AGAIN!...

I'd love to see it in 3D IMAX - if they let me....

The story line was just right for my 12 yr old, for me, it was a bit absurd. Everything else about the movie was fantastic.

I seem to remember a discussion somewhere about digital animation. hey were saying that once they get skin tones down and slightly more realistic mouth movements they can start to replace actors with Avatars. The realism in this movie was leaps and bounds beyond anything I have seen on screen. Muscle tone, movements, expressions, shadows, definition, depth... all there. It looked real aside from the fact that it was not real... you know?

Would be interested in seeing this one, if for no other reason than to ogle the technology (used to do some VERY crude animation for grins). Would be able to stomach the silly ticket prices (hearing $14-15 a head for 3d screenings ) since Darling Wife and I rarely spend our (limited!) entertainment fundage on movies - think the last movie we went to was Blood Diamond - two states ago!

My only hesitation is that I don't know if I'll be able to appreciate the 3d - left eye is still buggered up (lumpy retina), so my brain pretty much ignores its input (meaning I have to lean over and watch the coffee climb the side of my cup, cuz depth perception ain't nowhere good enough to keep me from over filling it!).....

I saw Avatar last night in 3D. IMO It's not a typical 'in your face' 3d movie where they make a lame movie to show off "3D", or is Avatar a typical movie period. I think Avatar sets a new level of visual entertainment;.... for a 3 hour long movie; i never got bored or never did it seem to drag and It never occurred to me the characters are "FAKE". I mean you know they are not real, but it never screams "fake fake fake".
I am usually annoyed with most 3D movies as my eyes can never really adjust and end up with a small headache and eye strain. I never felt any of this strain with Avatar. To me, This movie is like back in 1977 watching "Star Wars" for the first time.
But hey, what do I know, I am easily entertained....
Sorry if I built Avatar up too much and then you are disappointed...just forget what I wrote or what anyone else says, and go see it not expecting anything. (in 3d)

Oh; by the way....i get to see Avatar, or any movies for free as many times as I want because my daughter works for the theater... Life is good!!!!
