Keeps freezing up.I tried shutting it down, unplugged for an hour and no fix. I tried to Defrag and a message said i need to disk scan and then defrag. Don't know how to do that or if will solve my problem.

No blue screen. What is the procedure to correct these errors?

If it is XP, set up a new user or log in as a different user, if it still freezes up, it is something affecting all users of the computer, meaning a corrupt operating system or malfunctioning hardware. If it does not freeze up when logged in as something else, it is something specific to the user's account, malware or a corrupted profile.

right click on the drive select property then tools then error checking. You may have bad drivers too
