Favorite weird or modified tool??
 

i was just out enjoying the nice 28 degree evening trying to figure out why the starter on my rollback was shooting sparks out when i turn the key. the posts on the solenoid have the ol' double nut set up for the cables to bolt on to and one was loose. i needed my favorite modified tool to get in the space where a normal width wrench doesn't fit: so mine is an old 13mm 10mm hazet combination wrench that someone had ground the 13mm side "thinner" across the flat surface of the tool. just made me think if anyone else has the same affinity for a unique tool....and please, no body parts need mention here:eek:...

I keep halves of the 617 crankshaft thrust bearing in all my toolboxes.

its amazing what they've done for me.

My favorite oddball tool is the Vise Grip 4LW locking wrench. It's the best tool I've ever used to replace brake hoses. Here's a link to the tool I'm referring to: http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/jhtml/detail.jhtml?prodId=IrwinProd100328

The most recent brake job I performed using the wrench was replacing a set of original hoses on my buddy's '72 250C. I clamped the Vise Grip on each flare flitting and held it immobile while torquing on the hose fitting -- that method protects the hard line. I really had to lay into the fittings on the front brakes -- each time they finally came loose with a loud crack. The 4LW never slipped a millimeter.

I've got one of the bigger models in the LW line too, but I never use it. The smallest one is the most versatile.

For my F 250 diesel pick up, I have 2:
1) is a specially bent, and thinned 9/16" wrench for reaching the lower bolts on the IP.
2) is a very long ( maybe 18") and bent wrench to allow one to remove the bolts on the oil pump when dropping the pan with the truck in the chassis. This wrench will NEVER be used by me, for that purpose, again!

That is a weird looking thing?

About the most creative I have been is using needle nose vice grips, 3 quarters and a small bottle jack handle to remove the serpentine belt on a Volvo 850.
