Once Again Consumers, Read the Manual
Keyless Start Creates Safety Hazard in Emergencies
Lack of standards and consumers don't read instructions. But to shut down the engine while the vehicle is moving, drivers must hold down the power button for one to three full seconds, depending on the make. In some cases, two or three successive taps on the button will work. Mercedes-Benz allows drivers to kill the engine with a single push of the power button, but only if the transmission is in neutral. At least one manufacturer prevents emergency engine shutdowns if the vehicle is moving at less than 5 mph. |

People should also be required to know what neutral is for. Most people just know Park and Drive.

Spotted in Thousand Oaks, CA, July 2009
Couldn't believe this license plate somehow sneaked past the Calif DMV censors.
They are *REALLY* strict and vigilant and puritanical, those DMV censors.. (I took this one right when I got behind the guy when I was almost at Silver Star Mercedes Benz, to get that dealer, in Thousand Oaks, in Ventura County, outside of LA, to sign off on the high mileage badge application).

A friend of mine has a Dodge Challenger with keyless start, which appears to be very similar in design to the MB system. It's so finicky, that he finally pulled the push button off and now uses the key to start the engine in conventional fashion.
