Icelandic Volcano
Anybody affected by this at all? I hope I wont be. Wife and I are supposed to fly to London June 18th. No garantee that this will be over by then.
- Peter.

I have friends that flew to France last week. They plan to return in 2 1/2 months.
This volcano has thrown a wrench into the economy machine of Europe. |

So, why are we supporting Venezuela?

If we stopped buying from Walmart - the "little kids" would starve without being "paid 6 cents a year."

WE ARE NOT SUPPORTING THEM.
But probably a good guess is that, like with Saudi Arabia, you don't want to irretrievably lose the chance to buy their oil ... and they have a LOT to sell.

That is the most fraudulent and unbelievable statement to rationalize shopping at that place I have ever heard. Face it - people only buy that stuff because it is cheap. And you know it too

Agreed. I'm not a huge Wal-Mart fan, but don't hate them. I read that to provide the freshest produce, wally has started to seek out and buy from local producers whenever possible. This means local in-state produce can end up on store shelves. And since they are saving so much on transportation costs, they can actually pay the local farms fairly well while still being able to have reasonable pricing on the shelf. Take that Whole Foods! And its making the big grocery chains adapt as well, competition can spawn some great steps forward overall...I believe. The "local mom'n'pop demise" and "chinese child on 4cents/year" claims are old now. Business is Business. And doesn't Wal-Mart pay pretty decent compared to other grocery stores and have great benefits? IDK. Last time I checked, most of the stuff at Wal-Mart is name brand(s). The only way they are able to offer such low prices is because they can buy in such insane quantities and have ways to do it very smart, not order too much, etc. If people can't accept that, then they are missing out on some great deals (and some trashy people).

I am sure some guy in a long white dress & towel on his head is sitting in a cave in Afghanistan wishing he could make volcanoes erupt! Just wish the cave he is in would erupt with him in it!!
Meanwhile there are probably a few engineers tearing their hair out trying to work out how to stop jet engines from flaming out when they get a dose of ash in them.
