I Have Got To Get Me One of These!
Boeing's Truck Mounted Laser Takes Out IEDs
The full tests involved setting off different artillery munitions, bomblets and mortar rounds. This latest video clip shows Laser Avenger focusing its hot stare on two different IEDs from far-off and destroying them -- a huge advantage for soldiers who can detonate potential threats from the safety of their armored vehicles. Laser Avenger combines a directed energy weapon with a 25-millimeter machine gun, and represents just one of the truck-borne lasers that Boeing hopes to field. Fun video in the link. |

Well yes, that's some nice long distance detonating but the task still remains to find the damn things first. I've heard that they can put them under asphalt, cover with asphalt, and age it so it blends in. How does the laser find it under asphalt and then how does it detonate it, I mean in less that a few hours?

"Death Star" Laser Mosquito Tracker & Blaster
Myhrvold’s team demonstrated the system onstage using a green laser light rather than a real laser for safety reasons. They let loose mosquitoes in a glass box rigged with a camera on one side of the stage, then pointed the laser device at the box. The laser lights quickly located the mosquitoes in flight. |

Looks like it's to be used after the IED is located... There are better ways to detonate them. Spend the money on better things, is my vote.

Okay, this one doesn't blow anything up . . .
Hydrofloor, Submersible Floor Basically, the pool's floor slowly moves up and down, either up to ground level (where it's indistinguishable from the surrounding patio) or down, forming a more traditional pool. The best part might be the stairs--they retract from typical stairs into a kind of grooved flat surface. |
