Any Musky fishermen here ?

St. Lawrence River near Ottawa Ontario is not only the countries capital city, but its the big musky capital of the world. Some may argue that point, but they’d be wrong. There are few bodies of water that can yield 50+ inch musky regularly. For years I’ve heard people saying the St. Lawrence would produce the next world record musky, and in November 2008, it did just that.
Dale MacNair, was on the St. Lawrence River in late November when he hooked on to the fish of a lifetime. A biggest muskellunge ever recorded. His incredible catch was 57″ long, more than 33″ around and weighed a earth shattering 77 pounds (35kg)!
Some fishermen spend they entire lives chasing a 50 inch musky, but after only one year in search of muskie, MacNair caught one that was almost 60 inches! http://www.fishingfury.com/20090121/...e-ever-caught/

Rarely...

I've only caught one muskie in my life in Ludington, MI years ago while fishing for salmon... released it.

My dad had caught a good one by our standards somewhere in Canada - he was an envy of the camp that trip, but it wasn't a monster like the ones shown above... that's downright scary.

Here in CO I've seen lakes with muskie in it and on one occasion I've seen a group of them close to shore - I've tried casting a lure but none of them even looked at it... I have not targeted them since.

Muskie fishing, if I understand correctly involves trolling....a lot with few fish. It is good if you like riding around in a boat a lot and perhaps drinking a lot of beer. It is rewarded with a really large fish from time to time. If you want to eat fish (like me) and don't mind cleaning fish regularly, you might choose (like me) to fish for bluegill and or bass.

Different strokes for different folks.

That is a huge fish!

I fish a fair bit, but I've never caught a muskie. Some big northerns, but never a beast like that. Now that I am closer to Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence I might have to hunt one of those down at some point...
